The MCU Shang Chi movie looks like it’s going to be a 70’s movie remake with 100 million dollar special effects. I wish they had actually filmed it like a 70's kung-fu movie with cinematography to match, but filming it that way is incredibly costly these days or so I've heard. I'm sure James Gunn wishes that he could have done that for Guardians

If they do a Shang-Chi movie, are they going to do the licensing to feature his father and associated supporting characters? Or are they going to do what they should have done in the first place, and just say he's the son of THE YELLOW CLAW?

They are making The Mandarin his father and none of the Fu Manchu characters are being utilized.

What other characters were in the Rohmer stories? Dr. Petrie and Nayland Smith are the protagonists of the Rohmer novels and supporting characters early in the MOKF run. There are others, but I can't recall off the top of my head. -M

Or are they going to do what they should have done in the first place, and just say he's the son of THE YELLOW CLAW? They are making The Mandarin his father and none of the Fu Manchu characters are being utilized. That doesn't make any sense. But then, I stopped caring about anything new Marvel was doing over 20 years ago.
Martin Goodman's business model was always flooding the market with rip-offs of whatever this week's thing was. THE YELLOW CLAW was a blatent swipe of the then-current FU MANCHU tv series. You couldn't have been more obvious.
Considering he didn't like the idea of paying a license fee to do CONAN, I'm sure he would not have liked paying for a license to do FU MANCHU. Roy Thomas just made it more complicated by combining a licensed FU MANCHU series with a swipe of TV's KUNG FU.
What the hell The Mandarin has to do with this, I couldn't imagine. Of course, I already figured out that Jack Kirby intended for Iron Man to have an Asian arch-enemy right at the start, but a story, written & drawn to bring back The Yellow Claw, was altered at the last minute to turn him into another villain, who allegedly had been around for many years... and who, insanely enough, was then NEVER seen again.
A year later, The Mandarin, who was far LESS blatent a swipe of Fu Manchu, finally appeared.

I will be there, popcorn and soda in hand to support Shang. A favorite comic, I love king fu movies, I love the Marvel movies and if teen me reading MOKF had been told 59 year old me would have a Shang Chi to see on the big screen, I would have been laughing in your face. Adult me will grab a chance to view ANY Marvel heroes in movie or television as those comics are a very essential part of my growing up. Living the joy of seeing these amazing characters brought to life now is amazing.

What other characters were in the Rohmer stories? Fu Manchu, Nayland Smith, Dr Petrie, Karamenah, Fah-Lo Suee, the Si-Fan assassins. Shang Chi, Black Jack Tarr, Clive Reston, Leiko Wu, Melissa Greville, Shen Kui, Juliette, Brynocki, Mordillo, Carlton Velcro, Razorfist and such were all created within the comic and owned by Marvel. The Englehart stories, at the beginning, made greater use of the Rohmer stuff, though Moench used bits and pieces, here and there. I's love a more 70s style, as at least then it would have practical stunts and effects, as the trailer looks like a whole lot of CGI and wire-fu in front of green screen. Not exactly Shaw Bros (though that would be fun); but maybe a bit more Enter the Dragon or Game of Death territory (style, not plot).
