I've been smiling a lot lately.
This site has really and truly become everything I've ever wanted it to be. We've got the structure down, we've got GREAT conversation and events, and we keep seeing fantastic new members joining our community and adding their own distinct flavor to it. I can't recall the last time someone here even referred to "CBR". We've stopped being a refuge from a former home and become something all our own, so clearly superior to what we were that there's no point in even drawing a comparison anymore.
I'm also smiling because it's been ages since I've been NEEDED here. Sure, I've continued to do all the little things I do around here that help add to the site and make it better, but we have an amazing moderator staff that puts out the fires and keeps the peace far better than I ever could have. They don't need me. And we've got Coke & Comics running the front page and doing one heck of a job of it. He doesn't need me.
It is truly nice not to be needed.
I've always said from Day One of the CCF that I never wanted to be an administrator and I never wanted to be a moderator. I stepped up to build this place because someone had to, and I had the know-how to do it; I never wanted to run it. Now, after a year and a half of working towards this moment, I truly and honestly believe no one here needs me in that capacity anymore. Thus, my change in rank.
To be clear, the rank is an illusion. I am still technically the administrator of this site and have the power to do everything I did before, but I don't plan to exercise that power, except in the case of the occasional board restructuring and/or appointing of new staff members. I'll still talk to the Mod staff and throw my opinion in on occasion, but I want to leave no doubt in anyone's mind who is in charge now and who makes the big decisions: it isn't me. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to getting back to being a plain old ordinary member again, appreciated more for who I am and what I contribute than for the pants that I wear.
I really really want to thank thwhtguardian, Confessor, De Sinclair, hondobrode, and Coke & Comics for making me so thoroughly unnecessary. It's what I've always wanted
Got questions? Thoughts? Concerns? Well leave me the heck alone. I'm here to talk comics
