I didn’t win the Martian Manhunter. It went a little too high.
But I really wanted a Super Powers figure by that point. So I got Superman for $33. Which was way my past my original limit.

Glad you got one, sorry to had to exceed your limit. We have two-I have a Hawkman and Mrs. MRP has a Green Arrow. I also have one of the ministatues that were done based on the Super Powers sculpt of Hawkman. -M

What do you guys think about the more modern trend of the "build a figure" parts being added to action figures?
Personally, I think in many cases it ruins the visual if you were going to keep a figure on card (I'm kind of half and half, sometimes I open them, sometimes they look cool in their packaging to me). It's also never made me want to go buy a figure(s) that I wouldn't normally want just to get the parts to build another figure.

Still going strong. Current Marvel Legends figures have this...you get sometime a cool looking figure packaged next to a disembodied torso.

Looks a bit weird. And redundant. I saw one figure (possibly Hercules) that had disembodied hands. Why?!

Yeah, you've got the extraneous part that's where you need to buy the other figures in a wave to "build a character" that you can't buy separately as the gimmick to try to get people to buy more figures. Then you've got the "extra parts" with some figures...like my Kang figure I got recently, absolutely love the mold, but had to choose which set of hands I wanted him to use and pop those in. I hate having that kind of decision-making power! Then do I store the other ones away and ruminate if I made the right choice and swap them out at some point? Give me the old school figures...one version what you see is what you get

What you see is what you get indeed. Science has proven that Kenner’s Super Powers line and the 1990-94 WWF Hasbro Line are the best toylines ever, and they didn’t need any such gimmicks.
Like you, I don’t want to have that kind of decision-making power. Makes me wonder who lobbied for this kind of thing.
For me, it’s the toy equivalent of photo galleries on DVDs and Blu-rays. WHY?!

I had always wanted a nice Geo-Force figure, but love his green/yellow costume best. Years ago they made this one: I grabbed that and my wife was kind enough to do a little repaint job and I love how it looks (with sister thrown into the picture just for the heck of it):

Pulled out the set of one my all-time favorite toy finds from back in the day. Tagging driver1980 as a fellow Super Powers and MOTU fan, would be interested in knowing if you've ever encountered these before! These were Toys “R” Us exclusives I believe made by Mattel back around 2009. I remember walking down as aisle of my local store and seeing them and my jaw just dropped. I immediately picked up the Superman/He-Man and Luthor/Skeletor sets, and shortly thereafter I believe I was able to get the Aquaman/Mer-Man and Hawkman/Stratos. Those were all the ones that my store had, and then I stumbled onto the GL/Zodac on eBay and quickly grabbed that one as well. But my extra special find was the Bizarro/Faker set. Faker was always my favorite MOTU figure, and when I saw that one on eBay as well, totally had to get that one too. The only other set I think they made was a Supergirl/She-Ra which, while it looked pretty good, had Supergirl in her white animated series costume and that didn't fit the 80's theme to me so I passed on it. All of them also included either a comic book or mini-poster which I think was pretty cool. I also thought it was neat that they used the earlier blue coloring for Mer-Man. The MOTU molds are more classic, whereas the DC were more updated versus the classic Super Powers, but I think overall the designs work well together on these.

These are new to me, @jaska, so thank you for the tag.
Reading your post makes me think about the avatars, e.g. Faker/Bizarro, Hawkman/Stratos, etc.

I saw them years ago and came so close to buying them. There is a Supergirl/She-Ra one too!
