But she never lost her head Even when she was giving head She says, "Hey, babe, Take a walk on the wild side."

- the third verse of China Cat Sunflower, lyrics by Robert Hunter

The song was never released as a single that I know of but it was part of the regular concert repertoire of the Grateful Dead.

She's up all night to the sun I'm up all night to get some She's up all night for good fun I'm up all night to get lucky Can't say I've ever found these lyrics "weird". Unimaginative and insidiously catchy, yes, but not weird. Seems like a fairly straight forward commentry from a guy hoping to have sex with a girl to me.

This must have been a hit I chose that verse because of the "comic book colors" line; the silk trombone was a bonus. The song was never released as a single that I know of but it was part of the regular concert repertoire of the Grateful Dead. Love the lyrics that Robert Hunter wrote for the dead in the late '60s and early '70s. "Mountains of the Moon", "Dark Star" and "Box of Rain" are among my faves.

Uncle John's Band is another great one by Hunter

Yeah, darlin', gonna make it happen Take the world in a love embrace Fire all of the guns at once and Explode into space
It wasn't until about fifteen years ago that I realized that last line wasn't "It's loaded with grace," like I'd been singing it since 1970.
And does anybody else remember Michael Winslow's insane a capella version of "Purple Haze" from Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams? "Scuse me while I eat this fly"... and then he does!
Cei-U! I summon the hearing problem!

Yeah, darlin', gonna make it happen Take the world in a love embrace Fire all of the guns at once and Explode into space That's the song that introduced the phrase "heavy metal", isn't it? There are lots more misheard song lyrics here: www.city-data.com/forum/writing/2285485-favorite-misheard-song-lyrics.htmlAnd for the Robert Hunter fans (both of you), the last couple of albums from the Mickey Hart Band have some new Hunter songs on them. Of all the surviving members of the Dead, Mickey is the one who has continued to make new music and explore new ideas. The live recordings of his band on archive.org are worth seeking out.

Yeah, darlin', gonna make it happen Take the world in a love embrace Fire all of the guns at once and Explode into space That's the song that introduced the phrase "heavy metal", isn't it? Yep, that's right! "Heavy metal thunder" is the phrase as uttered in the song. The term "heavy metal" began to be used around 1969 or so, to describe the heavier or rockier sounding bands that had started to appear as the 1960s turned into the 1970s, of which Steppenwolf (who recorded "Born to be Wild") were one. And for the Robert Hunter fans (both of you), the last couple of albums from the Mickey Hart Band have some new Hunter songs on them. Of all the surviving members of the Dead, Mickey is the one who has continued to make new music and explore new ideas. The live recordings of his band on archive.org are worth seeking out. I assume that you've read the Robert Hunter penned and Timothy Truman drawn graphical novel Dog Moon, Rob?
