RIP Character actor Michael Parks www.imdb.com/name/nm0662981/Probably best known for his repeated role of a Texas Ranger in the Tarantino/Rodriguez film From Dusk 'Til Dawn and Tarantino's Kill Bill, he also had a sort of comic book connection: he plays "Jack Kirby" in Argo. Unfortunately, Argo depicts more fiction than fact and Parks portrays more of a generic artist, in a brief scene, rather than Kirby. Kirby had created designs for a proposed theme park, based on an option for Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light and also created conceptual designs. The project was shelved, due to lack of funds. Make-up artist John Chambers pulled out copies of those designs when approached by the CIA about creating a fake movie production to get American Embassy personnel out of Iran. Kirby had no direct involvement in the operation, which was mostly the product of the Canadian intelligence services, with the CIA in a support role. Parks is seen smoking a cigarette in a holder, rather than Kirby's trademark cigar and presents a far more sophisticated air than the more down-to-Earth Kirby.

RIP Stanley Weston, creator of the GI Joe action figure scoop.previewsworld.com/Home/4/1/73/1012?ArticleID=194287"When Mattel introduced Barbie dolls in 1960, Weston noticed there were no dolls being marketed to boys. To fill that niche, he conceived the idea of a military action figure and in 1963 sold what would become G.I. Joe to Hasbro." He also helped create ThunderCats.

Yvonne Dold died in 2014, but I only learned about it today. She was not involved in comic-books, so don't be surprised if you've never heard of her. She was a specialist of the history of mathematics in the Middle Ages in the muslim world. She and her wonderful husband Albrecht were among the most extraordinary people it has been my honor to meet. My wife and I were their tenants in the mid 90s, living in a flat in the house they had designed themselves. They treated us like family, even inviting us to the Mannheim opera once. We got to see the breathtaking art they collected, including a Miro original. Facing an enormous painting that was the main attraction in their living room, I once blurted out "this... this can't be a Rembrandt, can it?" Mr. Dold smiled kindly and demured "no. It's from one of his students". He was so soft-spoken, so highly intelligent (he was a mathematician at Heidelberg University) that I always felt downright stupid whenever we'd talk. He passed away several years ago, but Yvonne was, i believe, built to last for a century or more! She looked like Judy Dench and had in real life the same iron will, the same forceful character as James Bond's boss M. She was truly one of the most extraordinary persons I've ever met. (I said that already, didn't I? I can't help it. She was that awesome.) She and Albrecht didn't have children, but I know my wife and I mourn her just as if we had been family. May she rest in peace; she will definitely not be forgotten.

Boothe was a tremendous actor, with a connection to the comic world, as the voice of Gorilla Grodd, on the Justice League cartoon. He had great turns in movies like Southern Comfort, Red Dawn, Rapid Fire and Tombstone, here is Boothe's imdb link www.imdb.com/name/nm0000959/
