Just saw that. I loved when he was the musical guest on SCTV and they did the parody of the Jazz Singer, with Sid Dithers (Eugene Levy) as Jarreau's adopted father, a jazz musician and producer, who wants his son to be a jazz singer; but, the son wants to be a cantor. Jarreau got to sing his hit and act in sketches and seemed to have fun with the twist on the premise.

Long-time professional wrestler George "The Animal" Steele passed away on Thursday at the age of 79.
Known for sporting a green tongue and having an affinity for ripping open turnbuckles and eating the stuffing, the childlike persona exhibited by the man born William James "Jim" Myers in the ring belied his intellect outside of it. He had a bachelor of science from Michigan State and a master's degree from Central Michigan, and he worked as a teacher in Michigan before embarking on a decades-long career as a wrestler.
He was one of a kind, a fan favorite with an oversized personality who was also a solid technical wrestler (he was an amatuer wrestling coach). Although it's been years since he starred in the ring, he will be missed.

The WWF paid him a great deal to take a sabbatical, when he did the program with Randy Savage. The green tongue was achieved by chewing green Chiclets gum.

It's been a bad week for old-school pro wrestling fans. After the deaths of Chavo Guerrero Sr and George "The Animal" Steele (and 90s wrestling figure Nicole Bass), legendary heel Ivan Koloff (born Oreal Perras, in Canada) has passed away. Ivan was one of the best and most effective heels in the 60s and carried that through into the 80s. He was the man chosen to defeat Bruno Sammartino, in Madison Square Garden, for the WWWF World Title, in 1971. Bruno had been champion for nearly 8 years, defeating monster after monster and was a massive draw in the Northeast and an ethnic hero. Koloff's pinfall victory reportedly left the MSG audience in stunned silence. Bruno and Koloff made people believe, if only for the duration of a match.
Koloff eventually moved south and became a mainstay in the Mid-Atlantic and Georgia territories, eventually paired with a young, green, Scott Simpson, a muscle-bound trainee from Minnesota, who became Ivan's nephew, Nikita Koloff. Through the mid-80s, the Russians (along with Barry Darsow, as Krusher Kruschev) were a top attraction, battling the likes of the Road Warriors, the Rock n Roll Express and Dusty Rhodes and Magnum TA, in singles and tag matches, which drew huge crowds, rivalling the best of Hulk Hogan and the WWF.
Koloff spent recent years in ministry, while also making appearances at fan conventions. He passed away from liver cancer.

R. I. P. Larry Coryell. Incredible guitarist who was hugely influential in the development of jazz fusion. As Slam Mentioned, Larry as well as John McLaughlin with his Mahavishnu Orchestra were the grandfathers for the jazz fusion guitar movement of the late 60's/ early 70's R.I.P. Larry. I'll listen to your music tonight

Alan Colmes, 66, broadcast commentator, has passed away from a brief unspecified illness I knew Alan Colmes as the liberal voice on Talk Radio WABC and on the Fox News channel. Was the co-host for many years on the Hannity-Colmes show.
