Here is a sample of Ed's baritone singing voice.....
This is the kind of music my mother loved and I grew up hearing this kind of thing on her radio.

RIP to singer and actor Ed Ames, best known to Baby Boomers and us young Gen X-ers as Mingo, on the tv series Daniel Boone, alongside Fess Parker.... I'd missed that one. I was a huge fan of Daniel Boone when I was a wee lil guy. Probably second only to Batman as my favorite show for my first 5 or 6 years of my life.

Me, too, though I was not so wee as thee when that was on. Loved that Mingo went to Oxford and always called Boone "Daniel."

Me, too, though I was not so wee as thee when that was on. Loved that Mingo went to Oxford and always called Boone "Daniel." We had it in syndication, on a local channel, when I was in short pants. My favorite tv show, apart from Emergency. I still occasionally sing the theme song, when I see a frontier piece or clip from entertainment... "Daniel Boone was a man, Yes, a big man, And he fought for America To make all Americans free......." Sad thing is, I always mixed Ames up (in later years) with actor Ned Romero, who portrayed Chief Joseph, of the Nez Perce, in I Will Fight No More Forever, except Romero was an actual Native American (with Spanish and French ancestry, as well) and not an ethnic actor who was dark complected, like Ames or Michael Ansara (who was born in the region that was the Mandate for Syria and Lebanon, until 1946). However, Romero was also a singer, with the San Francisco Opera company and appeared on Broadway; so, there was a lot of overlap in their careers.

Ed Ames's Mingo was my favourite character on the show. At the time I was convinced he was a real Cherokee. My favourite Best of the West action figure was of course Chief Cherokee... Good times.

Funny enough, I got Geronimo, for a birthday present, in the early 70s. My neighbor had Johnny West and his sister had Jane, plus they had horses. Hard to believe how many accessories came with the doll. They were solid, too.

My own kids played with my old BotW figures when visiting their grandma, and it's only their tardiness in providing grandkids that sent the toys (still basically pristine) to another family when we emptied my late mother's house. My sister had the Indian Princess doll (whose name I forget). I swear, that one looked as new as when it first came out of its box when we gave it away.

Remembering those who have departed, today. The older I get, the longer the list. On my dad's side, his whole generation is gone, apart from my uncle's second wife. On my mom's side, it's one quarter gone, as I have lost 2 uncles, in the past 5 years and one of my mom's 3 sisters is not in good health, after a serious sun stroke, a while back. Then, of course, Barb. My father is buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery, just a few rows away from my junior high history teacher, who was a WW2 veteran (my father served in the USAF, during the tail end of the Korean War). My mother's ashes were to be placed beside his, when COVID shut everything down. Due to various family circumstances, we still have not completed that, 3 years later. My brother and I are both veterans, so our remains can also be placed there, if we choose. He never expressed an opinion...I don't care what happens to mine, as I will be dead. Barb's reside with me, as her son hasn't given me any indication what he wants.....I don't think he can face the decision. he didn't even want me to call him when she had passed, as he couldn't handle the call coming on his phone; so, he had me call his wife. For now, she rests at home, with the kitties..... The roses were from her nephew, who always stayed in touch with her. The little wooden box, in the upper left, in front of a photo of a cat, is the remains of my cat, Mr Man. We have another, with the remains of Barb's cat, Girlie, with her photo, in the bedroom. My brother has similar for 3 dogs that he lost, with their paw prints, in plaster. Neither of us ever had kids, but we had some special animals. I wasn't really a "cat person," until Mr Man picked me out to be his human.

Brazilian Bossa Nova singer Astrud Gilberto has passed away aged 83... www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65818566I love me some Astrud Gilberto. She had such a gentle, sultry voice and made so many great recordings. Here's a clip of her performing her signature tune, "The Girl from Ipanema", sung half in Portuguese and half in English. I know the song is a bit of an elevator music cliché these days, but it's also an exquisite melody that instantly conjures the '60s jet set era.

She was great. Such an understated delivery, perfect for that song and her style in general.

Love her rendition of One Note Samba. 'One-note' she certainly was not.

Also passing away was Pat Robertson, of the 700 Club and the Religious Right.
I'm an atheist, but I am just going to exercise my good Christian upbringing and say nothing more.
