For my money, L'empire des mille planètes remains the finest SF comic story ever. My thanks to fellow CCF member antoine for trading his copy of Terre en flammes, the original (and longer) version of La cité des eaux mouvantes, which I had first seen a looooong tome ago in an issue of Pilote, read while I accompanied my mom at the laundromat. Such memories are worth gold. I did? I don't even remember that haha! Was never a fan of Valérian when I was younger but after I heard the news a few days ago, I thought I'd give it another try. Glad you are enjoying it!

RIP to Peter Robbins, the original voice of Charlie Brown, from the 1960s, after taking his own life. He was 65. Robbins voiced Charlie Brown in A Charlie Brown Christmas and It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, as well as a few more tv specials, until his voice changed, in his teens. He also had small roles in The Munsters, F-Troop, My Three Sons, Get Smart, and a cameo in the Disney film, The Boatniks.
Robbins struggled with drug addiction and bipolar disorder and even spent some time in prison. He received treatment that improved his condition, after the worst of his troubles and attended conventions, sporting a tattoo of Charlie Brown and Snoopy hugging one another.
Those tv specials were a big part of my generation's life and it is sad to hear that someone who took a part in bringing such joy struggled so badly in life. I hope he is at peace, now.

Just learned that legendary Croatian comics artist Julio "Jules" Radilović died at the age of 94. He began his career when he was still a teenager, in 1945, right after the end of WW2, and went on to draw countless comics in various genres - Western, war, adventure, humor, etc. By the 1960s/'70s he was one of the most beloved artists on the comics scene in the former Yugoslavia, and his work even appeared in foreign publications (in Germany in particular). Here's some samples of his art that I'd posted not long ago on the European comics thread: Maurice Horn listed Radilovic's work in his World Encyclopedia of Comics. His entry in the Lambiek Comiclopedia has a little more information on his career.

I read about him in Horn's book; but, only saw whatever they might have posted inside and what you posted here. I recall a few artist from that region that Horn listed, with a panel or two that intrigued me enough to want to see more; but, examples are pretty hard to come by, on this side of the world.

Aw, mannnnnnn................................
Always loved Hesseman's work and he popped up in all kinds of movies, including Billy Jack, where he and other Committee members are part of the group at the Freedom School, who put on a demonstration for the townspeople, to try to draw people together. Also a lot of fun as a dentist who takes his family on vacation, in a Winnebago, on the way to Florida, and is being driven nuts by them, in Honky Tonk Freeway (an under-appreciated gem with a terrific cast of character actors). His wife is Terri Garr, son is Peter Billingsley and daughter is Jenn Thompson (Little Darlings, Harper Valley PTA tv series).
Somewhere in Heaven, an angel just said, "BOOGER!"

He was the main reason I enjoyed the sitcom Head of the Class as much as I did, and not even Billy Connolly could replace his laid back delivery and perfect comic timing when he left.
R.I.P. Mr. Moore

R. I. P. Hargus “Pig” Robbins. Even if you're a big country music fan it's likely the name doesn't mean anything to you. But I guarantee you know the music. Pig was one of the great sidemen in country history. From 1958 playing piano on George Jones' "White Lightnin'" through his work on Sturgill Simpson's album "High Top Mountain" Robbins was one of the go-to piano players in the genre. I was actually today years old when I discovered he played piano on Charlie Rich's "Behind Closed Doors." Given that Rich was a great piano player, that says a lot. For those who aren't big country fans he played on a little record by Bob Dylan titled "Blonde on Blonde."

I totally missed that, as well as codystarbuck's follow-up. We need a whoosh or dunce cap smilie.
You're right, I've just been thinking that this January especially has seemed very heavy on the "wow" deaths.

Many of the posters in the CCF are at "that" age. Death will continue to impact us monthly, I fear.
