Another baseball HOFer has passed, RIP Cardinals great Lou Brock. He was 81. Before Rickey Henderson, Brock was the epitome of the base stealer for me as a kid and another of my dad's favorite players. -M Saw him play a couple of times, when the family took trips to St Louis. never a baseball fan; but, the Cardinals, of that era, were a heck of a team. They were a superb team with two World Series titles in four years: 1964 and 1967 and a loss in a classic battle with the Tigers in '68, and Brock was a key factor in each of those seasons and particularly in each of those Series. In those 21 Series games, Brock batted .391, with an OBP of .424 (.521 in '68!). He had 34 hits (7 2B, 2 3B and 4 HRs), drove in 13 runs, slugged .655 and stole 14 bases. His 1.021 Series OPS trailed only Ruth and Gehrig when he was active. You were lucky to catch a glimpse of him those couple of times!

At that point, he was closing in on the stolen base record. I still recall him an Al Hrabosky, The Mad Hungarian (mostly for the mustache).

He looked like a mountain man down for the yearly rendezvous.

Great artist. His Hangman was one of the best drawn features at MLJ/Archie... You name a company and he worked there, with things like The Flying Dutchman, for Hillman's Air Fighters, Dr Solar, at Western/Gold Key, all kinds of crime and horror stuff, plus Flash Gordon and Judge Wright. I know he used pen names, in the 40s, because of his ancestry (half Japanese, half Irish); but, I kind of wondered if he had any run ins with the FBI or other government agencies, during that period.

From what I gathered from interviews with Fujitani, the only government agency he dealt with during the war was the draft board.
Cei-U! I summon the 1A classification!

He drew a lot like Eisner inked by Fine, or Bob Powell, back in the '40s comics. I also like this much later sketch as I can feel all the drawing knowledge behind it!

I'm genuinely saddened by her death. Her Avengers role was my ideal of womanhood for years as a kid. I recently introduced my oldest daughter to the show and she too was smitten. A genuinely iconic, mould breaking figure before the phrase became commonplace. Mrs Peel, you were needed.

Rest in peace, Diana Rigg =( Such an icon of style and grace! Even in her old day, she was captivating in her role as Olenna on Game Of Thrones!

Never saw any episodes of The Avengers and never been a big Bond fan, so I have limited exposure to Diana Rigg's work, but she was fantastic as the scheming and frankly quite scary Olenna Tyrell on GoT.
RIP Queen of Thorns.

I had forgotten that the video for The Pretenders "Don't Get Me Wrong" was an homage to The Avengers.
