Excuse me, but I must remind everyone the OP said Superheroes Packing Heat. Maybe he should clarify if that includes cowboys, masked vigilantes or whatever. I feel obnoxious for pointing it out once someone plays the hulk with a machine gun card, then it's time to play dirty

I feel obnoxious for pointing it out He did add if you want to showcase folks like Punisher, Vigilante and Wild Dog-none of whom are traditional super-heores-people could go ahead, so I think that gives people a lot of leeway in choices...unless foxley wants to clarify it further, I think the choices fit with the caveat he gave, except maybe the winged gorilla with jet fighters, but a winged gorilla with jet fighters should be eligible for any contest no matter what the theme... -M Oh, the burden of leadership! They do not warn you of the loneliness of life at the top, or the difficulty of the command decisions you will be forced to make when you enter these contests. But my intention of the theme was not 'any cover featuring a gun'. If that was the case, I would have made the theme 'guns'. Masked vigilantes are fine, as are classic pulp heroes, so Tarzan and Doc Savage are fine. Costumed cowboys (e.g. Lone Ranger, Two-Gun Kid, El Diablo, etc) are allowed, but not 'ordinary' cowboys (so Jonah Hex, Bat Lash, etc) are out. I'm afraid I'm going to have to rule the winged gorilla with the jet fighters out. I'll let Rex slide because I'm a huge Rex the Wonder Dog fan. The only other one posted so far I might rule out is hondobrode's, as I do not recognise anyone on that cover as a superhero. I honestly didn't think this would be a contentious theme.

People are of course free to change their entries up until voting begins, however, I will just point this out from the guidelines...
Not that Foxley or Ish posted anything disparaging or even remotely out of line, but I am not going to get worked up if something falls outside the theme as long as it is in the intended spirit of the game. If something doesn't "fit" the theme, but people are having fun with the choices, I'm cool with that (speaking as a participant and not a mod there). If someone posts a cover you don't think fits the theme, the simplest solution is not to vote for it. No harm, no foul kind of thing....

People have asked for clarification, so I have attempted to provide some. Maybe I was unclear in my original description of the theme, but I did intended superhero (or costumed adventurer or costumed vigilante or something to that effect) to be part of the theme.

It's cool, and appreciated. And people are free to make changes if they want based on that clarification; I am just not going to say they have to or should, or anything like that. People will just vote for what they like or what they feel best fits the theme, or that evoked the most memories, or...whatever criteria they use to make their choices. As long as everyone is having fun doing it, that's really all that matters-that's all I'm saying. -M

winged gorilla is clearly a hero rampaging through the neo-colonialist industrial military complex. you can see the look in his eye - those two jet planes are going to be used as six shooters as he plunders his way through new york as a one man marxist insurgency force. utterly disgusted by the treatment of one of DC's finest creations.
(he so isnt really)

Hey, no worries guys. It was my slip as I was thinking guns and less focused on superheroes. Will modify later tonight. Ish and Foxley are completely right. My bad. Fortunately, there's no shortage to pick from

Maybe I was unclear in my original description of the theme, but I did intended superhero (or costumed adventurer or costumed vigilante or something to that effect) to be part of the theme. I probably just assumed this, maybe because of how I think of superheroes, but I read it also as someone who doesn't usually use a gun (so Batman, but not Punisher; Doc Savage, but not The Shadow).

MOD WONDER WOMAN IS SO AWESOME!!! It's not Silver Age! It's not Bronze Age! It's Mod Diana Age, and the rest of us were just living in it. Yeah, but sometimes--like this cover--Giordano's inks suck the life out of Sekowsky's art.

This is a great theme foxley cooked up, but it occurs to me that the existential question of "what is a superhero?" continues to be a rather controversial one. I recall the same contentious issue arose during Cei-U's last 12 Days of Classic Christmas Comics event from our old CBR home.
Does it involve costumes, special powers, certain gimmicks, conceits and secrets? Or is all this paraphernalia secondary to basic motivation of character. Hmm... no answers here, just lots of questions.

Ok, before I post, I'm stating this is a famous unique character, a hero, but not necessarily a "superhero."
That would still work, right ?
