^ HA!
Quick question...is there a hero/villain who has a permanent drug addiction? Not talking about the various times we have seen regular characters involved in substance abuse stories, more so a character who always feels the need (and perhaps gains further power) when under the influence.

I wonder who got the final say in how much Mjolnir weights? I envision someone calling up Stan and Stan saying, "How the hell should I know? It's a magic hammer! It weights a lot! Go with that on your damn trading card! Excelsior!" Either that or an intern was sent around to various hardware stores to weigh similar sized hammers. We may never know.

Well there was Nuke form the Daredevil Born Again storyline popping pills (reds, blues, etc.), and Bane in the Batman stories and his Venom addiction/induced powers. -M

At the time period those cards came out, Peter Sanderson was the go to guy for all bits of trivia and was listed as consultant/researcher on all projects like that and the Official Handbooks. Knowing/coming up with that type of trivia/minutiae was basically his job on staff at Marvel. So if I had to put money on it, Sanderson would be my bet for who came up with it. -M

I became a fan of Sanderson from the Handbooks and started noticing that he was consulted on things like this. Marvel should give this guy a permanent position. If nothing else they could assign him to Bendis to keep him in line.

Hourman and his Miraclo addiction if you buy that addition ot his history. Can't recall when that was a story, but I do recall it. Maybe in All-Star Squadron? Bane and his "power juice" might be more what you're looking for. Doesn't he need that stuff to survive? Sherlock Holmes and his reputed cocaine habit, sorta-kinda.

Yes, that was a Roy Thomas insert-new-historical-continuity-here addition from All-Star Squadron Plus the infamous Green Arrow sidekick Speedy shooting dope story

There was Snowflame, the New Guardians villain who got his power from cocaine.

Captain Trips from the Wild Cards novels had to take various drugs to access his various super-powered alter-egos. In comics: Patriot from Young Avengers started taking Mutant Growth Hormone to gain superstrength and became addicted. Speed McGee from The Flash used a combination of steroids and implants to give him super speed equal to Wally's and became an addict. Johnny Quick in JLA: Earth 2 uses some kind of addictive drug called Speed Juice to gain his powers. Kraven the Hunter gained his powers from a jungle herbal serum. This drug seems to have had a deleterious effect on the sanity of his sons who have tried to take over his mantle.

Have the Bill Everett fans seen this one?: It's from Menace #5, an Atlas comic of the 1950s. I guess it's been reprinted in Marvel Masterworks fairly recently but I saw it in a 1990s reprint called Curse of the Weird #4, which is probably still pretty cheap. P.S. I checked eBay and you can get Curse of the Weird #4 for $2 or $3 or the whole four-issue mini-series for $10. I hadn't! I mean, it might be in one of my Everett collections, and I just have not come across it yet because I haven't flipped through all of them, but if it's not, I'm going to order the MMW! Thanks for this, Hoosier X! Menace should be pretty cheap. I got a copy for I think it was 12 bucks? Failing that, I think the '70s Tales of the Zombie has been reprinted a couple times, and everyone should read that. (Steve Gerber is my favorite scripter so I'm biased, but even by Steve Gerber standards it's pretty good.)

I'll probably get the single issue, if I can find it (not the reprints) to collect, but the MMW will suffice for now. I know the coloring will be jacked up (always is in the MMWs), but I can deal with that, I think.

It was the "streets of poison " storyline. Batman took Venom before Bane did. The original Hourman was hooked on miraclo.
