Tomorrow Stories was one of the few anthology titles that I actually felt did the genre justice, that and early 90's 2000 AD when the "Galaxy's Greatest Comic" actually lived up to it's name

I too like anthologies.
I've been reading through my current run of Valiants and loving them. Just read the Bleeding Monk one-shot last night and back to Harbinger tonight (death of a Renegade).
The last storyline in Eternal Warrior wasn't quite as strong, but that's the only waiver I've come across so far. Highly recommended if you want a nice tight cohesive universe with a fresh approach and not afraid to be bold.

His take on X-O was great in the beginning but started to become bland and directionless after the Planet Death storyline Dysart's Harbinger wasn't all that great either, but he seems to be making up for it with Imperium

I haven't gotten to Imperium yet but have greatly enjoyed everything I've read so far : X-O, Harbinger, Archer & Armstrong, Quantum & Woody, Eternal Warrior.
I've really liked both Venditti and Dysart's work very much and am astonished how fresh it is.

So what do or Valiant fans here think of the news that they are going to revisit the clusterf*ck that was Deathmate a a summer cross-over event this summer? I've liked the bits and pieces of stuff I read of the new Valiant, but things like revisiting Unity killed any interest I had in hoping on stuff for the long term, then I read The Valiant trade and was intrigued and thought about giving it another try, and then I saw the Deathmate announcement. Any time a publisher tries to make reading their books an all or nothing thing, I respond with nothing, and every time I get a little interest in the new Valiant they seem to do something like this that kills it. -M

Deathmate and Divinity II are coming out around the same time, so I wouldn't be surprised if the event is going to lead into it or follow afterwards. Divinity was very well received for Valiant's first book based solely around a new character Divinity is also of course nu-Valiant's analog for Solar: Man Of The Atom since they no longer have the rights

I want to like Valiant, but every time I've tried to get it to it I just find it kinda blah. It's not bad, but there's nothing there that gets me exciting, and I find I often will buy the comics and they'll sit unread for a long time.
Read the second 1/2 of sidekicks this week... ok for with it was, which is the Batman and Robin version of Irredeemable. I was hoping for something a little more than 'behind every good man is a better woman' in super villains, but not terrible.
Amelia Cole and the Impossible Fate was pretty disappointing. The art continues to look more rushed with each successive issue.. they clearly need a less intense release schedule. It also suffers very much from being the middle part of a long arc.. I feel like this could have been 2 issues instead of 6, and got to the resolution much faster. Instead, we get alot of not particular interesting interpersonal stuff that is reasonably well done, but just isn't what I was looking for. I'll still get the next(last?) one to see what happens, but its' no longer something I'd recommend to others.

I'm sure some would like it but it was kind of boring, IMO. My oldest daughter read it when I purchased it. She and her sisters are big Harry Potter fans and she said she didn't like it either.

If you read everything, then great, and you get a little extra kick out of seeing how it all connects, but, reading the titles that I've read, I don't think anything has required reading between any other distinctive title, except for Harbinger Wars, a 4 part event that went through more than 1 title. It's just my opinion, but I've gotten great satisfaction out of reading them chronologically title by title. Also great that Valiant gives a great recap of what happened the issue before.

Have to disagree with you on this one, mrp. Sounds fun to me. Eager to here more details about this. I'm a sucker for crossovers anyway.

Just read the hardcover edition of The Private Eye by Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin... originally released as a pay what you want digital comic and letter collected in hardcover. Interesting sci-fi tale set in a post-Internet America where privacy is once again a primary concern for folks, and a murder mystery which leads to a far bigger plot. Marcos Martin is a genius as a comic artist and the design (new style page layouts in a landscape rather than portrait setting to better go with the digital format of it's initial release done really well) and storytelling here is masterful, and BKV offers up one of his better efforts ( I like about 75% of his stuff but every so often he does something I don't like-this is one I definitely do). Definitely worth checking out. -M

Just read the first three issues of New Romancer by Peter Milligan and Brett Parson, which is bewildering but strangely compelling, and the first two of The Last Gang in Town by Simon Oliver and Rufus Dayglo, which I found hilarious.

Yes I'd pay a little more, but I really love the Guided View they frame their comics in. Sounds very good. I remember reading in an interview with BKV that it was wildly successful, and I'm sure it was, but it seems like it hardly got any comic press or buzz.
