Shax, do you plan on getting the Planet of the Apes Star Trek cross-over comics announced at SDCC and reviewing them? -M First I've heard of this. I suppose I do plan on doing so. |

I am eight episodes into the animated series on Hulu and enjoying it very much. The stories are quite good. It's a serial. Animation isn't that great, of course. Too bad they only made 13 episodes.

I am eight episodes into the animated series on Hulu and enjoying it very much. The stories are quite good. It's a serial. Animation isn't that great, of course. Too bad they only made 13 episodes. Isn't the animation style jarring? It seems like there were quite a few cartoons done like that in the '70s, and I still can't decide whether its super stylized or simply lazy. Maybe both? |

I've just done a marathon read of the BOOM series (core) and starting on Cataclysm.
Enjoying the hell out of both. Gabriel Hardman is extremely talented and originally the reason I picked these books up, but discovering Carlos Magno is the real delight. Couldnt believe how well illustrated some of the books are, incredibly lifelike poses, well told.

Apparently Boom put out a new POTA seriesm I saw this on the rack today:  I didn't pick it up but the cover looked cool. |

Thanks much for giving me a head's up. Here's what the Boom! website says: WHAT IT’S ABOUT: Bridging the 10-year gap between the RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES films, fans will bear witness to the fall of humanity and the rise of Caesar’s civilization. While the apes of the world have yet to advance as a species, Caesar must find a way to unify in them to one cause. On the other side of the country, Malcom must venture into the decaying Americas with his family to find a cure for the plague slowly killing his wife, Rita. World powers will shift as civilizations So why release this so long after the film?? At any rate, it's not in the continuity of the first five films, so it's beyond the scope of this review thread. Can't wait for the POTA/Trek crossover coming soon, though. |

Ah, I wasn't aware that was the scope, still I might give it a try when I go to the shop next week. Or better yet, I may get it if it's part of the 1/2 off sale at Dark Horse Digital on Monday.

It's not really, jarring, because it's exactly what I expect for an early/mid 1970s Filmation show. It's of a piece with the Star Trek series from the same time. One thing I did like is a few montages in the last handful of episodes where they would take some still art with incredibly detailed line work, as if from John or Marie Severin, and animate a pastiche around those. Ultimately, this series held up in quality storytelling for all 13 episodes. I'd like to see a comic-book series that could continue the storylines. |
