I downloaded my clz comics application last night and started entering in my collection. My thoughts on the application so far being about 1500 entered ...
Cons
The barcode scanner is a nice backup but too touchy to scan every book. It takes a very steady hand to give the iPod a chance to read it. Also obviously it doesn't work for direct edition with no UPC.
The search by title can sometimes seem frustrating. When I entered "X-Men" to find the 90's series I scrolled through titles and it wasn't there. So I scanned a random issue and it came up "X-Men Vol. 1 #36". So I then entered "X-Men Vol. 1" and it came up.
Pros
Adding a large amount of issues of one title is a breeze. Especially for older series, pre 90's before variant covers, as you can just tap the dot by the issue number and "add all highlighted".
You can touch the issue number and preview any issue to make sure it's the one you have before you add it in. And most issues have a lot of information and almost always a picture so you can see the differences in variants.
That's just what I've discovered adding comics to the database. I haven't really looked at the setup and display of the books I've added. I would say it goes pretty fast. With breaks in between and other distractions I added 1500 last night from 8pm-2am.
Edit: I'm up to almost 3000 entered so I'm about half way there. I'd be further along but storms knocked the power out yesterday evening 8-9pm or so and didn't come back on till early this morning, waking me up with lights, TVs, fans and what not.
The application is working well and I shouldn't have too much trouble getting everything entered before Memorial Day weekend sale where I'd like to make on last raid on their $1 boxes. All the other information you can add to each individual comic entry I haven't looked into other than editing quantities. But there's a lot. From when, where and how much you originally bought it for plus a large text box to add whatever notes you want.
Edit: The CLZ application continues to work out well. I'm up to about 4000 logged and only 1/3 to a 1/4 left of my collection. If I were concerned about logging in an accurate pricing on my collection I would say that would be a minus to this application. With an ongoing database, that at the moment, I think I've only run into about 10 comics that weren't in it, you would think that there would be a worth for each book. Even if one paid a annual fee or something to keep a continuing cost on each book you enter. However my default renter's insurance includes up to $5000 in collectibles. So that's a bit less than a $1 a book, which probably doesn't average out too much less than that. Especially since this is really only a ploy to get $5000 more in insurance in the event of a disaster. (Which seems to be happening a lot in this state.) All they are going to do is write me a check and I spend it on what we need. And comic books would be the last thing I'd worry about replacing if we did get our belongings destroyed.
However, as just an inventory of what I have to keep for buying duplicates or help in having it handy with me where I don't have to carry a 40 page spreadsheet or go off memory, it was easily worth the one time $15 for my Ipod. It does back up on via the cloud to my CLZ online account, as well as on my Ipod itself. The only thing I need internet connection for is to make changes, like adding more comics or taking comics off my wish list when I buy them. At least is backing them up to the cloud. You can make the changes without the internet but it will not make the change on your account without the internet connection for cloud. But that's easy to do. Overall I am very happy with the application and the website.
