Day 16 in reflection:Who'd have thought that doing too well with the diet could pose a problem? Tonight, even after dinner and my full allotment of healthy snacks, I was very tired/low energy, had a killer headache, and was insatiably hungry. I think I've hit a point where eating only 1500 calories a day may no longer be enough. Perhaps I've finally worked off the remainder of the undigested food lingering in my system or the amount of readily available body fat to be burned or something. I just felt like I wasn't getting enough nourishment today, and that worried me. I stopped to think, determined this wasn't just a craving, and also that, based upon the nutrition I'm getting out of my diet, it either had to be too few calories (1500 for the day) or too few carbs (a little under 50% recommended daily allowance per day), so, seeing no healthier options in sight in our kitchen, I allowed myself a hot dog bun (140 calories, 7% daily allotment of carbs). Yeah, it could slow down the weight loss, but that's only assuming my body wasn't in need of those extra calories (which I think it was). So my only real concern is the extra 9% daily allotment of sodium it gave me (I'm already at 103% each day). So we'll see if tomorrow goes any differently. If it doesn't, I'll have to adjust the diet somewhat. There's disciplined, and then there's sticking to the diet to the extent that it becomes unhealthy. I'm trying to find the right balance. Successes: Stuck to the diet for the most part and then thought rationally before eating anything else. No binging. Struggles: See above. Even now, I still have a splitting head ache, though I feel VERY full now. Failures/cheats: Planned hot dog bun All in all: Giving myself an A++ because I think I handled today very well, deciding that it was appropriate and necessary to eat more, but doing so purposefully instead of just gobbling up the tastier things readily in sight (we still had leftovers of my favorite pizza in the fridge, as well as fish sticks that the rest of the family was chowing down to). You might just have "hit a plateau." Occasionally, your body needs to adapt to tapping into its stored energy reserve and until it figures it out, it's gonna complain. I would not give in too quickly. This might be a good time to add unsweetened green tea to your diet. It helps the body burn fat and the caffeine, which is released slower than that in coffee or soda, gives an energy boost.

Well I solved the problem of what was wrong with me. I'm sick. I think I kept my lunchtime stew around for a little too long. Today I ate the last bowl from last week's batch. Not a good idea, for future reference. Yikes! Sorry , man. The shelf life of cooked foods are a few days, and anything more is gambling especially if it might have meat.

Day 17
My starting weight: 265 lbs My ideal weight for my height: 185 lbs My goal: 220 lbs by August (15 lbs per month for three months)
Today's weigh in: 253.5 lbs (+1.5 since yesterday; -11.5 lbs overall)
Well that sucks. No way a hot dog bun did that. Just weight fluctuation, I guess, but it's very disheartening after all I went through yesterday. If I'd eaten Chipotle for lunch, I'd weigh just as much but not be sick right now.
Stay the course. Stay the course.
My plan for today:
Breakfast: 1 serving of all-natural vanilla yogurt. Multivitamin and Calcium/Magnesium supplement.
Lunch: Gotta take a break from the stew after yesterday. I don't have much else on hand, but there might be a veggie burger in the freezer. I can slap that on a bun and bring it to school.
Throughout the day snack: Half a serving of dry Frosted Mini-Wheats (for iron and fiber)
Dinner: Two chicken breasts marinated in no more than two tablespoons of soy sauce, and with cumin to taste
Other snacks (if needed): raw unsalted cashews, baby carrots, sliced pineapple
Between sickness and weight gain, morale is a lot lower today. Hope I have the strength to stay good.

Day 8
My starting weight: 218 lbs My goal: 180 lbs
Today's weigh in:210 ( -2 from yesterday, -8 overall)
630 am banana
1000 chicken/salad
130 3 burger paddies/ salad
645 1 pork chop/ mashed potatoes
8pm baked apples
The salad was the key to my day. I put together a huge salad in the am in a container and carry it to eat with whatever I have.I did have some left over mashed potatoes but otherwise, I stuck to to sugar and no bread. My water consumption was down because it was raining and cold over here. 8 pounds lost in 7 days is about right whenever I diet this way. I don't think I could stand to deprive myself for 7 days to only lose 2 pounds.

From what I have read "processed" flour(white bread, hot dog buns??? etc)is one of the worse foods you can eat, as far as sugar(which is my concern)it is right next to pure Glucose. Keep "Whole Grain" (be sure it has the "Whole Grain Stamp") breads/snacks handy for when you need to "cheat". Nuts(unsalted) are also another much healthier option as well as Chia Seeds which I had mentioned earlier, which you were concerned about the "fat" content. A couple of OZ. of Dark Chocolate is also a very healthy alternative to processed flour or fatty snacks. Dark Chocolate contains lots of healthy Anti-Oxidants.
As far as Green Tea... It needs to be freshly brewed from either tea bags or leaves, processed tea's like Snapple, etc are filtered and the "anti-oxidants" are removed during the filtering process. I drink 16 oz. of Decaffeinated Green Tea daily.

Those moments in the late afternoon/evening are such a struggle when you're hungry. You feel like going back to the other way of eating. I've had to dodge ice cream, chocolates and nice alcoholic drinks in the last week. We have to be like Batman in the respect of always prepping our environment with good food to snack on.

Shax, I hope you feel better soon!! And even if you are not feeling well, and/or you feel you have hit a wall in your progress, do know that you have lost a LOT for as little time as you have been doing this. And you HAVE made a ton of progress. Icc, you, too! I haven't worked my arms in two days. I had a chiro adjustment on Monday, and my upperback was a knotted mess yesterday. So knotted, in fact, that I barely got any work done yesterday. Husband rubbed my knots for me last night, and I slept much better last night, so my back feels a lot better today. I did row yesterday, and by slowing down, I was able to increase the time I row without exhausting myself or overdoing it.

Husband rubbed my knots for me last night, and I slept much better last night, so my back feels a lot better today. I did row yesterday, and by slowing down, I was able to increase the time I row without exhausting myself or overdoing it. I'm glad you made the adjustments. That's the advantage of sharing our day to day in this thread, we can learn from each other and from our progress or lack of. I always liked how your body ,pretty quickly, will let you know whats working and not working .

I'm probably going to add exercise to my regiment today or tomorrow. I wanted to give my body time to adjust to the sudden subtraction of calories.

icc, I can't imagine how much harder it is to be committed to a diet in your line of work, constantly passing temptations throughout the day. Stay strong, my friend! cw sorry that you've hit this frustrating and painful setback, but if you've come out of it learning how to avoid the same pitfall next time, then you're all the better for having had it And thanks much for the reassurance. I really need it today. I've already had Dunkin Donuts for breakfast and Chipotle for lunch. Then I decided to just go off my diet for lunch from now on and watched myself slowly gain back weight throughout the month, ultimately saying "screw it" to the diet entirely. Then I felt really bad about myself and hated myself for having abandoned the diet. Fortunately, all of that happened in my head. I'm still 100% on course

This may sound weird, but I am actually less hungry than I was before. Before I started on the diet, I'd get major munchies in the evening. Now, I'm just not feeling that. And the portions I am eating at meals are getting smaller - not on purpose, but I cook the same amount of food and get 80% of the way through the meal and find I just don't want to eat the rest. It's pretty handy, but I have no idea why it's happening.
