Yeah when I was a truck driver I'd work 14 hour days and not eating junk food just wasn't a realistic expectation. But there are fast food options that you can lose weight on. Not saying there going to be healthy, but less fattening. A lettuce wrap turkey burger from Carl's Jr is like 200 calories. Two of those is a filling meal If calorie restriction is your goal, you can definitely achieve that at fast food places. I think there has been at least a couple of people who did sort of a reverse Morgan Spurlock and showed you can eat nothing but McDonald's for 30 days and actually lose weight, reduce cholesterol, etc. I think it helps that McDonald's has a relatively wide ranging menu, with things like salads and wraps, and many of its offerings are relatively small in portion compared to, say, a burrito from Chipotle. But I'd agree with you that even portion-controlled and calorie-restricted, it's not the healthiest option. My primary concern with fast food is that it's heavily processed -- it doesn't take a genius to figure out that a burger, fries, and coke is laden with calories and fat.

So here's my idea...
The founder of Weight Watchers often admitted that the point system was largely meaningless; the real power of the program was the support groups -- sharing your struggle with others and keeping each other accountable.
I was planning to start my nutrition plan this week. Not a DIET, as those are short term, and you just gain it back after. Instead I'm going to make some long term changes to my lifestyle that I may relax in time if/as I begin to approach my optimal weight.
So I invite everyone and anyone interested to start their own diets or life style changes along with me starting next Monday . We can share our experiences, successes, struggles, and frustrations with each other each day, encouraging each other to keep on our own individual plans for as long as possible.
If you're in, lay out your life style change plan here and then be ready to share with us how you're progressing each day (at least at first, we can relax it to once per week once it becomes routine for us).
Who's in?

I very rarely eat a burger and feel great afterwards. They taste good but I can feel my arteries clogging after. But it's quick and easy and cheap to grab a burger, which has to be why McDonalds still exists today. But yeah, just because you have to drive thru doesn't mean you have to get the double quarter pounder.

Hopefully people won't accidentally post pictures here that are supposed to go in the "what I had for dinner" thread.

I'll join in as well. I'll post my plan on Monday. I've done this a couple times with quite a bit of success so I have some theories on weight loss that have worked well for me in the past. One of them is having a support structure like this - someone to keep you in check and kick your butt if you need it kicked.

Our rowing machine should arrive today! It's going to be interesting to see if I can actually use it without killing myself. I already tripped over the Gazelle machine the first time I got on it. This is why I won't workout at gyms. I'd end up being someone's youtube joke.

And don't laugh about that Gazelle machine (a lot of folks think it's a joke) because if you up the tension on it, that machine will kick your butt. And it only takes 5-10 minutes to do so.

I'm also glad you didn't become someone's youtube joke.

I feel like joining a gym so I could make my work outs more efficient. I feel like I'm doing it wrong because I don't get that burn that lasts for days. When I was in rehab there was a personal trainer and she kicked my butt but it wasn't hard work, I was just doing it right.
I have enough equipment that if I sold it could probably pay for two whole years membership. I don't do it mostly because I'd feel like I had to buy a whole wardrobe to go instead of just working out in my pajamas or an old oversized stained tee shirt full of holes.

I like working out from home. Working out, for me, is also a lot about putting on some tunes and getting lost as I work out. I couldn't get that comfortable at a gym.
