Day 7 in reflection:
Successes: Went off diet for dinner last night (Indians game) and brunch today (weekly family outing), but was able to get back into the swing of things after with minimal temptation.
Struggles: There was temptation, especially when at my mother's house for dinner. I cooked my standard dinner for myself there, but I gained all my bad eating habits from my mother, whose home is choc full of muffins, brownies, chips, cookies, and (yes) she served microwaved appetizers for dinner to everyone else, so it was difficult being there at times.
Failures/cheats: There were moments when I worried I was going to, nagging thoughts of "come on -- just one cheat!" but I held firm.
All in all: A- day for me (just because my brunch of oatmeal with bananas, cranberries, and walnuts, accompanied by a turkey sausage patty and buttered English muffin was higher in calories and in carbs than ideal, but MAN was it good!).

For sure this is a tough weekend with Memorial Day cookouts to stick to a diet. Try to "cheat smart"and not go overboard. You're doing great , shax.

My husband picked us up some sugar-free chocolate. This is going to help me out a LOT.

Day 8
My starting weight: 265 lbs My ideal weight for my height: 185 lbs My goal: 220 lbs by August (15 lbs per month for three months)
Today's weigh in: 255 lbs (-1 lbs from yesterday; -10 lbs overall)
Still incrementally losing after two planned departures from the diet. One left.
Incidentally, I'm only realizing now that I've been sleeping a lot better than I have in a long while. Not only do I not wake up in the middle of the night anymore, but I'm definitely having more dreams, and they're pretty much the strangest ones I've ever had. My dreams are usually little more than slightly more concrete versions of thoughts that were already running through my head. This stuff is more what you'd expect from dreams. Haven't had that experience in a long while.
My plan for today:
Breakfast: 1 serving of all-natural vanilla yogurt
Lunch: Memorial Day cookout. My last planned departure from the diet this weekend.
Throughout the day snack: Half a serving of dry Frosted Mini-Wheats (for iron and fiber)
Dinner: Two Foreman-grilled chicken breasts marinated in no more than two tablespoons of soy sauce, and with cumin to taste.
Other snacks (if needed): raw unsalted cashews, baby carrots, sliced pineapple

Having more issues with my scale. It's pretty frustrating. I weighed myself this morning three times in the same spot as yesterday - just to make sure I wasn't stomping on it or something - and got the same reading each time. Okay, no problem. A couple minutes later, without eating or drinking anything, I tried it again in the same exact spot, and it came up with a different number. I'd chalk it up to the scale itself being messed up, but I bought a second scale a while back because I thought the first was broken, only it's giving me readings that are all over the place too; I can't seem to get it to give me the same number twice under any conditions. Anyway, one week in, and I guess I'm at or around 241.6. I started at 243.2. This is about right. I'm a slow and steady guy. Last time I did this, I lost almost exactly 2 pounds every week for a year, with only one or two weeks deviating slightly to 1 or 3 pounds lost. It would be nice to lose more, but I'm fine with this. Progress is progress, and at this rate, I should be hitting 200 or so around the end of October. We'll see.

The scale will fluctuate as much as five pounds for me. Sounds like you're making good progress. Slow and steady wins that race!

Yeah little floor scales aren't terribly accurate.

I was able to increase my time on the rower by one minute. I didn't have to break once throughout my time on it. That is a FIRST for me. With increased time!

So I think I might allow myself more BBQ for dinner tonight. It's been a special family day.

me? not so much, but I am still getting in the daily exercise. When you're really ready to make it happen, you'll be great at it. Convincing yourself to take it seriously is half the battle. Having a solid plan is the other half
