Bernie Sanders was an independent. Maybe he could start a party with his cousin Larry David and make Festivus the state religious holiday with a giant pole for grievances on the front lawn of the White House?

The only inaction that's gonna take down the capitalist mega-corporations is to stop feeding them money. Easier said than done, of course, but if enough people do it....

Bernie Sanders was an independent. Exactly my previous point. The 2 independents in the US Senate vote along Democratic party lines.

Brian, my friend, in 2020, and tell your friends, I want you all to vote for an independent. I want to see a Congress and Senate filled entirely with independents. Could you do that for me? When given a good choice I do usually vote independent. I live in Washington state and in local elections I try to - I voted for Kshama Sawant for city council for example. I voted Nader in previous presidential elections (but I should note it was mainly because Wa State was going for the Dem anyway so my vote wasn't needed). But most republicans run for local offices in Seattle as Libertarians, and I am no fan of them. Its my belief that most mainstream politicians are out to f*** ya - but the Dems will at least give you a little kiss while they're doing it to you.

Don't see that ever happening. People still believe public opinion influences the way the country is ran. People still think they have rights, when in reality they have privileges that can be revoked at any time by a higher authority "just because". We're all puppets. Like I always say here "might equals right".

I certainly can't understand why Americans continue to vote for Republicans and Democrats, although it's the system that is at fault. And I am not speaking from a privileged position. Us Brits (well, not me) keep voting in Conservative or Labour. To be fair, both parties may suck, but the current batch of Republicans are worse by several orders of magnitude. The Dems like their money, too, but they want you to have healthcare and food while they're rich.

And the next enemy of the people of the U.S.A. is... "America Will Never Be A Socialist Country" "We Were Born Free" - 2019 State of the Union address.
From the man who brought you "Mexican rapists and killers", the press as the enemy of the people, and "it's going to be a great wall (that I can tell you, believe me)". The lefty-est of the evil lefties who hate America unveiled at last... it's the socialists! This means he really thinks he will be able to run in 2020 by the way... this is simply the latest branding exercise. People loved his address last night; "strong", "presidential", "inspirational", "very strong", "like a changed man", "very very strong", "as if touched by God with a mission"... tie, suit, white man, what else could you need?
Making America great (again) by tearing up an arms reduction agreement Reagan spent years working to achieve, because it's what Reagan would've wanted, oh and they would just ignore it anyway, because... no sanctions, and no regulations, we don't need those anymore, or rules, or laws, or qualified people, or...

And in the same speech, President Knownuthin announces a program of federally-paid family leave that will allow new parents to bond with their beautiful new baby. THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT SOCIALISM IS ABOUT!!! TAKING CARE OF THE PEOPLE, NOT STEALING AWAY THEIR FREEDOM!!! Not that his base will realize it, of course.

Yeah, I hate that kind of sheer dumbness actually having any success even besides any hypocracy. I don't know what they think public roads are either; that's a socialist program to maintain and build roads without putting toll booths for user pay on everything. It also was social engineering for good and ill (for ill think Robert Moses who nearly got as far as bi-secting Greenwich Village for a super highway like he had The Bronx). Don't hate something (even Trump) because it seems popular to or someone you really like or are related to hates it, nor out of fear of being different, hate it for real considered reasons founded on experience and reality. And I hate what is (still) happening to the U.S. right now!
In a balanced democracy socialism is basically the soul. PBS is television for the society, and even though they keep cutting the funding and staffing they still haven't gotten rid of Big Bird like Mitt Romney said... at least people can have one channel with some quality television not existing simply to get people into watching more advertising. I'd like to know who hasn't absolutely loved at least one documentary, drama or children's show on it?

OK as a conservative the type of socialism I don't want? The type where I am totally dependent on the government for every detail of my life from the cradle to the grave. Sorry but those on the alt left want that. And those on the alt right fear any type of socialism.
We need government to provide defense. To maintain the infrastructure. To protect and make sure laws are enforced. To provide a safety net for those who need it.
We don't need a government to tell us what to drink or eat. To tell us how to raise our children. To tell us how we should live while they live the opposite way.
I'm sorry but the politicians in BOTH parties aren't there to serve the people. They are there to continue to receive the perks of the job. I would love to be able to fire all of them and keep doing that until they start seeing themselves as servants of the people and do what they are supposed to be doing. Put the people and America first not their party's policies.
And to continue my rant I am sick of the muck raking and digging into people's pasts to discredit decades of work for one indiscretion in their youth. And some of it comes from their own party! We all do stupid things when we are young. And people do change as they get older. I am not the same person I was in college.
Politics is 99% useless and useful 1% of the time. I am amazed the country even functions despite the politicians attempts to make a mess of things.
