Funny seeing various pundits remarking how "reasonable" Trump seemed in his address to the nation yesterday. He seemed to me to be asking for something he first effed up when it had been a done deal, and then walked out on after calling for a meeting in some kind of stunt to show he's 'strong'! So now he want's to deal and meet again? Talk about being subject to somebody's whims and moods, this is so awful looking for the U.S. and it's always him causing these reality show type ratings grabber dramas.
When the time is right I would do whatever to end the shut down and make sure people understand the credit goes to the adults and none to the volatile child (who also keeps changing his reasoning for his b.s. wall). The simplistic lines about lefties being for open borders and letting everyone in to illegally vote for them shouldn't get traction with kindergarteners.
Meanwhile I see ex-PM Tony Blair back in England urging for a united EU in the face of China's huge population... mores tone age thinking if it's all about sheer force of numbers, but remember those people are kept ignorant deliberately... big handicap Blair, as you should know how being kept in the dark works out from when you (unlike Canada) backed Bush Jr. in his pre-emptive war and full occupation against Saddam's WMDs to the hilt. I hate seeing disgraced old names crawling back Cheney-like... are we going to have David "no plan B" Cameron start spouting wisdom too? These two Oxford and Eton sharpies got things into a mess, are they really sharp enough to want to listen to again?
Strong words from me today... "standards have fallen"! Theresa May has my condolences... and as for the U.S.; people just need to see the difference of the New York Times over the New York Post, and the Washington Post over the Washington Times, as well as that Buzzfeed, Breitbart etc. are worth what people pay for them!

Not sure what you mean by this. No true Christian would ever advocate this type of cruelty to be administered upon anyone, especially not migrants to the US. This is my point. So many who self-identify as Christians and supporters of family values bend over backward to rationalize and defend people who not only condone but pursue these actions. It doesn't help that many outspoken and public evangelicals defend this administration. The hypocrisy and defense of vile acts in the name of religion is what I am taking issue with. And yet a Buzzfeed reporter just won a Pulitzer. Cei-U! Just sayin'! If you are always risking everything to get to the big story first, sometimes you will win a pulitzer, and sometimes you will be spreading more fake news than Breitbart. You definitely have to take them with a grain of salt as we saw in this case with the SCO claiming inaccuracies. Interesting that Buzzfeed is doubling down. I am very curious to see where everything lands on this. |

I think the bold part is really worth considering, the Right is taking Mueller's team's comment to mean that the whole report is "fake news" but all they actually said was that there were several inaccuracies to the report and didn't elaborate further...which doesn't mean the whole thing is faulty, only some details. Only time will tell what the truth is. |

been getting Robocalls all day today from the President talking about border security, keeping out drugs, and "the wall"
who the hell gave Trump my number?
(and whomever is behind the calls? SHAME on them for spending money on this crap instead of taking care of all those being impacted by the shutdown)

That robocall, and the tv spots I've seen, look much more likely to turn people against his obsession and him than the other way around. I have definitely not voted for people I felt bugged my phone too much, or if they had an ad that was simplistic manipulative half truth b.s. Even if I agreed with them if they think these methods actually work they will keep multiplying in number.
You know the main think I think wrong with Kentucky school kids being at a political rally/protest/demonstration? Them being there... I mean what responsible adults bus teenagers to things like this or give them political signs and clothing? They are just being manipulated like puppets. It wouldn't be all of those kids' idea or interest, especially not on pro-life/anti-abortion as hopefully they would have little experience in such areas nor much interest in such an adult subject. I distinguish this from say kids who had a shooting at their school, or speaking out on some issue like school funding cuts, but come on... a couple bus loads of teen-agers taken to counter-rally against other demonstrators? This is bizarre to me.

This is bizarre to me. You're missing the big picture here. Those kids were bused to the March for Life rally for numbers, plain and simple. The more schools that send their students to the event, the larger the crowd, which allows the organizers and pro-life folks to cite that as clear evidence that there are lots of Americans who are anti-abortion (because let's be honest, most of these "pro-life" folks are "pro-death penalty", which is the exact opposite of being "pro-life"). The kids get a day or two out of class, their parents get to feel good that they are instilling "good Christian values" in their kids, and the event organizers get what they want, which is a big turn-out. The kids in this video go to a Catholic school, and if there is anything in the world the Catholics hate more than abortion, I've yet to find it. When my older daughter was in kindergarten and 1st grade, we sent her to a private Christian school because our public district did not have full-day kindergarten (and we both worked full-time, so we needed somewhere for her to be in the afternoons) and later, we were looking to leave the district over unhappiness with their focus and financial management (they cut art and music programs, but spent $350K for lights for their baseball and softball fields so the teams could practice and play at night). Anyway, while she was at the private school (which was K-12), they took a busload of the HS kids down each year to this rally, and we were told that basically, the organizers sent invites to every Christian school east of the Mississippi to ensure that the numbers at the rally were up and that the students were expected to go as their Christian duty. |

Here's my plan to put an end to the shutdown.
The Democrats should propose a trade. Instead of a wall, the U.S. could fund a 100-ton statue of Donald Trump made of solid gold and place it at the border to placate Mexican invaders. It could be called "The Beacon of Border Security" or some other flattering name.
Such a statue would cost 6 billion dollars in gold, plus the costs of designing, casting and installing it.
Since the issue of the wall is not a matter of security but a pissing contest, creating such a unique testimony to the American president's stable genius might satisfy him, especially if some Fox news people like the idea. Statues predate wheels, after all, so they work.
Then in 2020 you guys melt the whole thing and get your money back.

Amid reports that federal employees, some of whom are being forced to show up to work unpaid while others sit out on furlough, are having to go to homeless shelters or seek food assistance for themselves, he responded:
"Well, I know they are and I don't really quite understand why, because as I mentioned before, the obligations that they would undertake, say borrowing from a bank or a credit union, are in effect federally guaranteed, so the 30 days of pay that some people will be out is no real reason why they shouldn't be able to get a loan against it."
He continued: "So there really is not a good excuse why there really should be a liquidity crisis. Now, true that people might have to pay a little bit of interest, but the idea that it's paycheck or zero is not a really valid idea."
WTF is wrong with you, Wilbur? I get that you are out of touch because you could go years without a paycheck and never have to take out a loan, but that's pretty messed-up there. Yeah, people, many of whom are already living paycheck to paycheck, can just "pay a little bit of interest" and it's no big deal...to you, but to them it's huge, and all of this is because your boss, the sulking man-baby in the Oval Office, isn't getting his way on his wall or steel-slat barrier or whatever Kellyanne Conway wants to call it, because if he doesn't build that wall, he's going to upset El Rushbo and Ann Ghoulter and #1 Trump Cheerleader Sean Hannity and they're going to turn the rest of the psycho-right against him.

The sad thing is I was trying to explain to some people things about Trump and why empowering him would be a yuuuuge mistake, from the point he announced (and in a way, back when the Clintons were in the WH where a lot of bizarre ranting talk personalities got their start thanks to a weakened FCC), and a lot of other people were laughing about it but i thought well, that could be a fatal error right there. I did get the "shut up Canadian" reaction sometimes, to which I recall I always said something like this: If the city next door to me was thinking of hiring for dog catcher someone who had no experience with dogs, or barely even seen a dog, I would feel I should say something then too! I can't say honestly if I ever got through to even one person.  I can't tell how many times I've tried to relate my Rush Limbaugh's "there are more trees in the U.S. now than when the country was founded" story. Really, that's all anyone should've needed to be warned. Guess the being perpetually righteously outraged and having all kinds of other people to blame and call names just felt too warm and fuzzy for many; kind of like they've been sitting in their own pee all this time to me though.  |
