Got my August box... the ones I couldn't wait to read:
Fables - Meh... this Rose Vs. Snow Camelot analogue thing is a bit too slow a burn. I'm hoping for a good payoff, though. I'm not usually fanboy-ish, but I swear if they don't fix Bigby I riot.
Uncanny Avengers - Quite a letdown in what was an epic story. VERY disappointed
Legenderry - Zorro! Sweet. This has been a super fun series, I just wish Willingham waited to do it until after Fables.. I feel like all his good mojo is going here.
Usagi: Senso - Awesome, of course. How can you know love armored 'Spot' and a Turtle shaped Tank... and the aliens haven't even arrived yet!
Astro City - Good story and great concept, but it seems like this should be it's own series, not an Astro City arc... I"m not sure it totally fits in.

Grendel/Shadow: Been a while since we had a Grendel with Matt Wagner doing the art himself. And as he is in my Top 10 American comic book artists, that's a good thing. Bit of timetravel just to set up the premises, but Grendel doesn't concern himself a lot of how and why and just continues doing what he always does so we can get to Grendel vs. the Shadow. Eagerly awaiting part 2.
Rocket Raccoon: Very good choice by Loot Crate to give this to their subscribers as it's very new reader friendly, it's funny and it's gorgeous. Definitely one of my top comics at the moment.
Moon Knight: it seems we're done with done-in-one stories that Ellis was doing. I'm giving it a couple of issues, because I don't think this was bad, it just wasn't as good as it used to be.
Miracleman: I loved the 50's backup stories in the previous issues, so was a bit disappointed that most of the backup this time is the uncoloured pages and so. There is a 50s backup story though, so it's not that bad. Storywise the main story moves along at a decent tempo.

I let Fables pile up and read 7 or 8 in one sitting. I enjoyed the last arc but Rose vs. Snow sounds tedious and telegraphed.

Regarding MM: It's been great reading the Moore stories again but I find the Mick Anglo stuff to be tedious. It's the black dot 'Archie' eyes I don't like.

Sigh. Yeah, Fables lost a lot after the Kingdom arc.

last two weeks worth of very good comics
1. Adventures of Superman #16 ****: I am going to miss this book a lot, wonderful epic tale across time 2. Superman #34 ****: I'm really enjoying Geoff Johns first arc 3. Justice League #33 ****: Wait a minute, is that the 1970s Batman that just showed up? Another top effort from Geoff. 4. Aquaman #34 ***1/2: I hope Chimera comes back again, he's a very good new villain. 5. Flash #34 ***1/2: A good finish to this arc as well. 6. Batman '66 Meets the Green Hornet #4 ***1/2: This series continues to feel like the tv shows really well. 7. Flash Gordon #5 ***1/2: I really like how all three main characters are portrayed, the back up artist did a credible job too. 8. Sinestro #5 ***1/2: So that's where he went. Very good starting arc for this new series. 9. Godzilla: Rulers of the Earth #14 ***1/2: A huge Mechagodzilla fight followed by the return of an even more awesome kaiju. 10. Batman '66 #14 ***: Batrobot was fun, but this was a very competitive week. 11. Tiny Titans: Return to the Treehouse #4 ***: Batgirl's new outfit debuts here! 12. Batman/ Superman #13 **: They all can't be winners, I only have to suffer through two more Jae Lee issues.

Sigh. Yeah, Fables lost a lot after the Kingdom arc. The problem, IMO with the Rose Vs. Snow arc is it's so forced... even in story. It's clear that Rose is wrong, yet she's the 'good' guy, which doesn't make alot of sense. It makes the impact of different characters choosing sides less, and in alot of cases, nonsensical. Then there's the Bigby thing... I'm sorry, but Nurse Sprat is just not a credible villian IMO... all she does is remind me of how annoying Mr. Dark was.

Almost forgot... I read Pale Horse today.. very cool... sorta Lone Wolf and Cub in the Civil War west. I could see the art style not being for everyone ,but I really enjoyed it.

Heh, Moore must love that choice... Yeah I thought that too. and Moore insisted that Quesada illustrate it ? We've been misled (bwa ha ha) before (Sentry), so who knows ?

Really loved the new issue of She-Hulk. The confrontation being set up is bound to be both epic and brutal.
