Dreamworks owns the Gold Key characters and they are quite hands on in managing the stories, every plot has to go through their office for approval before it is greenlit, much the way Lucasfilm was with Star Wars material at one point. It's not always a smooth process and there have been some rumblings some of the writers involved were a bit upset that things got yanked from under them that they wanted to do on some of the titles, things that got approved by Nick at the Dynamite level but nixed at the corporate level. If they don't sell and get cancelled (and with Dreamworks licensing fees it wouldn't surprise me if that was sooner rather than later), I wouldn't look for anyone to pick up the reins any time soon as Dreamworks is not easy to work with it appears.

The Geoff Johns run is the first time I've been interested in the character and it's been one of my favorite books each month since. I think Jeff Parker's stuff so far has been pretty good. Everybody should be buying Parker's Flash Gordon, and then buy extra copies for the neighborhood kids. 'Cause if you won't, you're killing the industry. I'm quite capable of both buying Flash Gordon every month and killing the industry with the rest of my purchases thank you.

I bought some Aquaman issues yesterday for $1 each (19-20, 22-25) and after reading just #19, I'm onboard. I didn't feel completely lost, the story moved along nicely, and the artwork was nice.
So, are there any other New 52 titles that anyone could recommend to me, with the following caveats:
1. I tried Batman: The Dark Knight, but only made it through 6 issues. It sucked. 2. I don't like Superman in any way, shape, or form. 3. I'm open to series that have already been cancelled/ended if they were good reads.

Planned for this week:
IMAGE COMICS MAY140575 DEATH VIGIL #1 $3.99 > will give both of these a look, but don't know if I'm getting them. Spread is Justin Jordan, so I'm interested, but it seems another Infection-horror type story, which I don't really like. Death Vigil I've only seen the cover. MAY140579 SPREAD #1 (MR) $3.50
MARVEL COMICS MAY140844 CAPTAIN MARVEL #5 $3.99

I've been happily reading Dan Slott's run on Spider-Man and Mark Waid's run on Daredevil. I started both before my "I decided I'm gonna wait for the trades" phase and decided to just stick with the singles each month. They don't disappoint; I love both like I would love my babies, if I had babies. Been getting the Aaron/Ribic Thor in HC formats. And I'm just gonna renege on my "trades only" rule for Walt Simonson's Ragnarok, George Perez's Sirens, and Warren Ellis' Supreme: Blue Rose. Because I want to and I can break my own rules.

Moon Knight #5....it's essentially one issue long fight scene, a hero running a gauntlet with a life at stake, but d**n if it's not one of the most intense fight scenes I've seen in a comic in a long time. It was violent and ugly and beautiful all at the same time. Ellis is doing a masterful job of these done in one issues and Shalvey and Bellaire are cranking out top notch visuals issue after issue. This isn't an issue that makes you think, its just a visceral tour of super-hero violence-not something I usually particularly enjoy, but it was like tuning into an old Ali-Frazier bout or a Bruce Lee fight scene and just turning off the intellectual side and just experiencing it and reveling in it.

Not the strongest of the Ellis run so far, IMO

The best New 52 titles have been The Shade, Dial H, I, Vampire, Animal Man, Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing once Soule takes over, Phantom Stranger once DeMatteis comes on, Green Arrow under Lemire and Sorrentino, Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE, and Demon Knights.

Second on Dial H. One of the best runs in a very long time.

Second on Dial H. One of the best runs in a very long time. All depends on your feeling towards Mielville I guess, I found his prose turgid and nearly unreadable and I didn't find his writing any better in the 2 issues of Dial H that I tried. His prose work is constantly recommended to me by folks that I know, especially in the gaming industry, and I have tried 4-5 different novels or stories of his and not been able to finish any of them. -M

Second on Dial H. One of the best runs in a very long time. If the first arc had been as strong as the second and third arc, it might have lasted longer. It just was a tad confusing to get into, I think, and that hurt its long term chances.
