But at the time, Jean had not been a Phoenix host; the two had just had a brief conversatio...WHAT AM I DOING? Am I defending the continuity of the awful, awful, awful idea that is X-Factor??? Please shoot me now! Yeah, but that has been re-retconned since and in current continuity (where Bendis X-Men takes place), Jean *was* the Phoenix. (and if they just had a conversation it would make even less sense that Jean had lost her telepathy. Damn mutants, always losing their powers as if they were car-keys.) Whaaaa...? She always was the Phoenix? (Mind you, that's how I read it back in 1979: the Phoenix was not a separate entity, it was just Jean tapping into a big cosmic force akin to the Power Cosmic that fuels the Silver Surfer). How does Bendis make it work? Maybe I shouldn't ask... I already didn't think much of his handling of the Phoenix in AvX, what with its being able to be split in little bits, being concerned about mutants (why would it?) and being no more powerful than some Iron Fist supporting character. But I'll give that to Mr. Bendis: he has me interested in the X-Men again. It's been a while. *edit* : I love your creation of the word "re-retconned"!

Oh Jean has always been the Phoenix for years now, it's not something Bendis came up with. (I think it was Morrison's run that confirmed this, but I'm not sure).

But the vibe I got from the Morrison run is that "real" Jean slowly connected to the Phoenix force because she has some kind of natural affinity for it, and once Logan killed her she could assume all of its power (or "fully realize her potential as the white phoenix of the crown", for whatever that is supposed to mean). Then there was that very bad limited series with art traced from lingerie magazines, in which the Phoenix came back to earth to... er... I think it was to feed on Cyclops' eye beams or something, and while it was at it the Phoenix reanimated Jean's corpse and brought Quentin Quire back from whatever state he had been in. Ugh. I want my twenty minutes back. Is Teen Jean the Phoenix again, now?

Don't know how far along with the series you are, but in the Trial of Jean Grey (X-Men/Guardians crossover), teen Jean seems to have become something else.

1. What's the deal with Superman: Unchained? Is it an ongoing, or will it end when Snyder and Lee are done with their story? 2. What's the verdict on Wonder Woman by Azzarello? It seems that people either think it's the best run since Perez(the only extended WW run that I've ever read) or that it's a monstrosity that destroys the core concept. I disliked what I saw of the Azzarello WW, mainly because of its poorly-conceived re-inventions of Kirby's New Gods and of Greek Mythology, both of which are very weak - as usual in superhero comics, to make the title character look more impressive.

My impression of Azz's WW was that it would have been a decent indy book as an alt take on the Greek Gods but it was bad Wonder Woman, and his new take on Orion and the New Gods was a breaking point for me. Terrible and a deal breaker for me. Stopped reading and never looked back.

Wonder Woman is the only title currently at main DC worth a damn. (Ok, unfair, I'm not reading a lot of other titles at DC currently). Though I have to say that Cliff Chiang's artwork is the biggest reason I love this series. I'm really disappointed that David Finch will be taking over art duties. The last thing that title needs is his brand of poorly drawn cheesecake / bad '90s art.

I've avoided it since he described it as being "a horror comic." I guess actual modern horror comics don't pay enough to maintain Azz's preferred lifestyle?

this week's comics 1. SUPERMAN UNLEASHED #7 ***1/2: It's two big fight scenes, but they're glorious! It also has one of my favorite Wonder Woman scenes of all time 2. EARTH 2 #25 ***1/2: Sometimes I think, "Can we just give these heroes a nice planet to protect and get rid of the main DC Earth?" 3. BATMAN '66 MEETS THE GREEN HORNET #2 ***1/2: Ty Templeton is socking it out of the park in every panel and a new villain is one the scene 4. ACTION COMICS #33 ***: This may be my favorite Lana Lang since her Insect Queen days looooooooooooong ago 5. TINY TITANS: RETURN TO THE TREEHOUSE #2 ***: Last month Brainiacs, this month Bizarros, including Duckzarro! 6. GREEN LANTERN #33 ***: Hal gets called dim and tosses out ethnic slurs. He also seems to save the day, but wait the worst is yet to come! 7. BATMAN/ SUPERMAN #12 ***: It was all right, but it was another side trip to Earth 2 8. AQUAMAN AND THE OTHERS #4 **1/2: This would be Adlai Atkins favorite comic book 9. JUSTICE LEAGUE 3000 #8 *1/2: Flash #3 arrives, I think she'll last at least four issues As a result of the bombshell variant covers, I bought my first and probably last Nu52 superhero books last month. Action and Superman/Wonder Woman were both part of a Doomsday story that seemed pretty decent. Wonder Woman was.. okay... but I had no idea what was happening or who it was happening to, as it seems to be near the end of a long storyline. Maybe it was good, but for a new reader, it's impossible to even guess. Superman/Batman #12, meanwhile, was total nonsense. Not only did I not understand most of what was happening, I very much don't want to know, because it seemed terrible. Next time just download the covers to your computer and print them out.

It seemed to be an ongoing when it started, but they quickly changed it to a 9 issue limited series for some reason. With Superman in team up books with both Batman and Wonder Woman a third solo would be just too many. 2. The overall verdict is that its among the best of the New52. My verdict is that it is among the worst that I haven't dropped. The sooner this whole Greek Gods/ New Gods nonsense is gone the happier I'll be.

Has anyone been reading the most recent Aquaman title? I've heard some good things about it and have a chance to pick up some of the earlier issues for $1 each, so if anyone has any feedback, it would certainly be appreciated.

I picked up Original Sin 0-3 a little while ago and got around to reading them now. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed them. I ordered 4-5 right away. I usually dislike big events but Aaron is a greet writer with some crazy ideas. I'm going to have to check out some more of his stuff. Any recommendations from him would be welcome. Aaron's Scalped is a symphony in 60 issues.
As Slam said, it resonates even more for those of us in Indian country (Oklahoma for me).
BTW, Scalped is coming to tv via WGN !

The Johns/ Reis issues are among the very best of the New 52 titles. The title has lost a step since they left, but it's still a good read.

I liked most of his Thunderbolts stuff, but once it shifted to Dark Avengers, I was pretty much turned off.

Best Aquaman ever IMO and I really like the character now.
