Did anyone else read Star Trek: Harlan Ellison's City on the Edge of Forever? Yes it's as awesome as it sounds. It's a 5 issue miniseries adapted from the original teleplay by David and Scott Tipton who also wrote Doctor Who Prisoners of Time.

Craziness. A Bugs Bunny-type character as far as I can see. Zero appeal for me. You...don't like Bugs Bunny??? Quite the contrary. Bugs is awesome. I've just never taken to DP.

The MAX Deadpool was what interested me, though I haven't gotten it. Latham and Baker unrestrained sounds great. What was bad about it ? Loved Stray Bullets and glad that it's back. The story itself was pretty bland and not particularly funny. I had it in my head that we were going to get the Helfer/Baker Shadow, but instead we got a fairly tame, workable story with lots of violence.
It's only notable for introducing Hydra Bob, DP's sidekick, who is tolerable at best.
Well, thanks for saving me the wasted money. I thought if anyone could spin a DP story I might like it would be these two, but no. Everyone has their own preferences. I never cottoned to Spawn either.

very solid week
1. Adventures of Superman #14 **** out of 5: Max Landis is welcome to write more comics 2. Superman #32 ***1/2: the "last son of Earth" is quite interesting and some of the Lobdell stuff seems to be on the way out 3. Justice League #31 ***1/2: the new Power Ring isn't anything to write home about, but Shazam! and the Lex and Bruce show carry the day 4. Flash #32 ***1/2: best issue from the new writers and baseball saves the day again 5. Batman #32 ***: let's see if Snyder can stick the landing 6. Batman '66 #12 ***: I liked the backup story with the Golden Age outfit needing to be taken out of the attic 7. Invincible #112 ***: if Robot would just shut up for a bit, I might like the story more 8. Flash Gordon #3 ***: this Flash is just about too much 9. Aquaman #2 **1/2: more Mera than anything else, the new villain has possibilities 10. Sinestro #3 **1/2: I'm glad Soranik is sticking around 11. Star Wars: Rebel Heist #3 **1/2: Chewie has some good moments, but the plot isn't much 12. Godzilla: Rulers of the Earth #13 **1/2: we're four years down the road and the original Mechagodzilla returns

very solid week 5. Batman #32 ***: let's see if Snyder can stick the landing If he does it will be a first. Snyder's endings are terrible, not just in comics either, just about every story in Voodoo Hearts just stopped without a real ending or limped to an unsatisfying ending that seemed to have little to do with the story that was setting it up. The closest he's had to a decent ending was Severed and that was still not that good. He does very good beginning's and ok middles, but he is terrible at endings, which is why I avoid him now, because you leave every story he does feeling unsatisfied when its over. -M

The drug angle among the crew didn't feel very Star Trek at all.

Start with a good idea, work towards where you want to go with it, and bad stories having gaping holes, or sudden shift in characterization or plot or whatever.

Next Saturday at one of my LCSs, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola s doing a 20th Anniversary signing, focusing on the release of the Hellboy Artist Edition and all things Hellboy. Any suggestions of what Hellboy stuff to get signed? I've read bits and pieces of the character, but not as much to make me look like a fool. I did ask if its cool to bring non-Hellboy stuff to get signed and Migs said that's alright. So I have his Batman 'Death in the Family' covers ready to go.

I'm about to make the plunge into some new series in TPB and on Comixology. I decided to order:
Adventures of Superman #1-5 (Classic Superman with some great art) Batman #1-7 (Court of Owls) Thor: God of Thunder #1-5 (Ribic is one of the best"new" artists I've seen in awhile) Savage Hulk #1 (Alan Davis, yay!) Silver Surfer #1-3 (really like Allred on this) Daredevil #1-6 (the last Waid series)
My criteria is a mix of characters I like, creators I like and trust and series that I know will be virtually untouched by Marvel and DC's mediocre, editorially driven, events structure (In the case of Adventures and Savage Hulk, thankfully, they're not burdened with modern continuity). Does anyone have any recommendations that fit this bill? (I'm also reading The Sixth Gun, as far as none Marvel/DC stuff)

Adventures of Superman is solid.
I didn't care for Thor : God of Thunder, though I thought I would. Ribic's art feels cold and sterile to me here.
I've only read Daredevil # 1 but liked it quite a bit. Bought the rest of the last series but haven't read it yet.
Will get Savage Hulk later. I love retro series as I'm pretty out of touch with current Marvel.

I've considered Hawkeye, but I'm only mildly interested in the character. I like him in Avengers, but I've never been sold on him as a feature.
Savage Hulk was great and a breath of fresh air. Of course, Alan Davis simply can't do anything wrong in my book and the Hulk is my favorite Marvel character.
I like what I've sampled of Batman, but I wish DC would do an Adventures of Batman series and replace one of their other Bat-Titles; I'd like to see a mix of 70's Adams/Aparo Batman with the Timm/Dini version.
