Squirrel Girl was wonderful. The theme song, the comments at the bottom of each page, the cool Kraven. And when I noticed her necklace - wow.
Ant-Man was a decent set-up. But when I was at the LCS, they were just unpacking their (late) shipment. There were 10 copies of the 'shrinking' variant cover, and nobody knew what the gimmick of the covers was. Seriously, didn't the solicitation explain the concept? Look at any one cover, and it's just another comic. Anyway, I explained how the Ant-Man figure is a different size on every single cover, and the owner let me grab a couple of copies at cover price, instead of the $10 he's charging for the rest.
And I really liked Bitch Planet. That's going on the pull list.

Yeah, agreed. I thought Squirrel Girl would be good, I didn't expect a life-changing epiphany of awesome brilliance.
Def. getting Bitch Planet in trade. (I get the first volume of anything from Image. Ten bucks!)

I'll check out both in trade: can't afford adding more books right now.

Bitch Planet does look promising, but I've only seen issue 1 yet - was there another issue this week?
Ant Man is setting up Scott Lang as a sort of lovable loser character, which I guess is aligned to the upcoming film. It's kind of OK, but didn't make a huge impression. Can't see the series lasting very long.
Squirrel Girl was a bit of a disappointment - I didn't find the humour worked, and I don't like the reverted look of the character much, preferring the more human look from the Avengers run.
Still liking Men of Wrath.
Avengers - No more bullying was very worthy, but not very good. Original S.I.N was pretty poor. The interminable Spider-Verse story is still not really getting anywhere in Amazing Spider-Man
G Willow Wilson's first X-Men story didn't do much for me either
All in all, a pretty dull week so far - got a few more to read, none of which are really calling out to me

Sorry Squirrel Girl didn't work for you. I liked the more realistic look she had back in the Avengers, and it worked there, where she was a supporting character in a regular MU book. In her own series, I prefer the cartoony look. For me, she's better when used to comment on super-hero comics, rather than being just another hero herself.

Here are some new comics I purchased lately. I guess Myth of 8-Opus is considered classic now? The TPB's came out in 2008 I think. I'm not sure, but included them here anyways. Transformers Vs. G.I. Joe is the best thing Scioli's done since American Barbarian. So good! And I've only read two issues of Nightworld so far but I am impressed and love that art style.

I've long meant to pick up Myth of 8-Opus. Love all things Scioli ! Thanks for including the pics of Nightworld, Brian. I'd never even heard of it but like the looks of it.

That's some cool art of stuff I've never heard of... It never ceases to amaze me just how much STUFF there is out there.
Read 21: The Roberto Clemente Story... not super deep, but a fun, unique art style.. I think it would have been a bit better if it was either a little shorter, or a little longer... they included a few small bits of social commentary, and Puerto Rican history.. I think either focusing more on those, or leaaving them out would have been better, but still a good book worth the read.

Those covers are FANTASTIC and really do NOT look like anything made art-wise today. Or is it just me???

You guys totally have to check out Nightworld. Paolo Leandri's artwork is like a mix between Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Hayao Miyazaki. It's definitely got that retro throwback feel to it. Anyone know anything about Paolo Leandri? Is this his first series? I can't find much about him but love that art style.

I don't. But now I know I am going to get this series. The art, the color, those words. Yes, I think it is a must.
I am going to see if they have this collected yet.

Here's what Amazon says about the series: It's fast and furious Faustian action as a trio of demons - the noble Plenilunio, the hellraising Hotspot, and the haughty Hellena - battle the evil Empyre and each other over mythic artifacts to lift their curse! Meanwhile, Plenilunio's spellbound lover Lidia sleepwalks his castle and haunts his heart. The cult-hit team of writer Adam McGovern and artist/creator Paolo Leandri (Dr. Id, The Next Issue Project), along with sought-after color artist Dominic Regan (Paul Pope's One Trick Rip-Off) channel pop-art comic classics with postmodern humor, in a unique mashup of vampire romance, gothic tragedy and supernatural heroics. This meta-monster-movie tale of wayward souls in a death-race on the road to redemption is B-movie psychodrama at its best! Now readers can see the entire saga that the A.V. Club's Oliver Sava called "stunning," Multiversity Comics' Michelle White said is "the right way to do old-fashioned horror," and Comic Bastards' Kimberly Gibson called it "a breath of fresh hell fire." This edition contains never-seen prototypes and unique looks at the creative process, with character designs, pages from an unused version, alternate cover sketches, script development and commentary from the creators. All adding to the comic that's been compared to everything from Edgar Allan Poe to Jack Kirby!

Apart from Miracleman (which seemed to have some colouring issues sadly), I picked up Squirrel Girl (which I liked, but not as much as some people I've read) and IXth Generation (haven't read it yet, but appearantly it is part of Top Cow continuity. Picked it up because it Sejic on art and he quickly is becoming one of my favourites). And for European comics a new (at least for dutch translations new) chapter of Donjon.

I liked Squirrel Girl.
I think she should totally team up with the Rural Juror.
