I too usually watch the unaltered OT, although not always. I do actually like some of the changes, such as the CGI revamping of the Battle of Yavin, the opening up of Cloud City, the Sarlaac's beak, and the general overall tidying up of matt lines in the special effect composites, for example. But like any sensible fan, I detested things like the Mos Eisley cringe-fest, Greedo shooting first, and the "Jedi rocks" sequence in Jabba's palace.I do have the laserdisc-sourced bonus DVD of Star Wars that supercat mentioned, but my go to versions of the unaltered editions are Harmy's DeSpecialized versions: fan-made reconstructions that are available from various "under the counter" internet sources. These blow the unaltered versions that were officially released as bonus discs on the DVD issues into the weeds. Wikipedia article about Harry's DeSpecialized editions.Another change which I detested as much as any, but doesn't get talked about a lot by fans, is the part in The Empire Strikes Back where the swamp creature spits out Artoo, and in the original version, Luke says "You're lucky you don't taste good" and in the Special Editions, and all subsequent editions, they changed it so that Luke says "You're lucky you got out of there." What?!?! That is absolutely the dumbest, most pointless change of all. The got rid of a funny line any replaced it with a stupid and pointless line. While I dislike a lot of the other changes, I could at least think of a reason why Lucas might have changed them, however misguided that reason might but. But with this change, I can't even think of a bad reason for it, let alone a good one. Okay, tirade over.

There are three volumes, is that right? I've seen the last two at reasonable prices - 20-something $C - but the first one seems to be ridiculously over-priced. Unless I've got this all hopelessly confused, as is often the case.
Yeah, the first one has gone up a bit. A couple of decent looking copies up on eBay right now for about $40 (another reason I mentioned possibly holding out to see if the next New Republic Epic Collection does indeed collect this). yes, I meant to thank you for the heads up about that. I will probably wait a few mnths and see before buying the older ones.

I did exactly the same. Then I taped the Duel of the Fates music video off of MTV and re-watched it over and over again trying to match up the characters Love Duel of the Fates!! John Williams' score is probably the one aspect in which the prequels actually equal the quality of the original trilogy.

Eh...it was visually impressive, yes, but I'm not sure it was quite as riviting or as exciting as Luke and Vader's duel on Cloud City...or indeed had as much significance to the overall narrative. As a result, it didn't seem to matter as much IMHO. Actually, in terms of significance, I think all the lightsaber duels from the OT had a much greater importance to the over-arching plot than the Kenobi/Jinn/Maul duel from TPM did. Really, the death of Qui-Gon is pretty insignificant next to Obi-Wan's self-sacrifice and merging with the Force in A New Hope or Luke's losing his hand and Vader's shocking revelation about Luke's lineage in ESB.

I do remember how everyone was like "hey, why didn't Qui-Gon fade away when he died?" Midichlorians, non-disappearing deceased Jedi, Anakin's building C-3PO...total fanboy (of which I include myself) chaos!

Speaking of prequel duels, did it get any better than this scene at 1:35 in? Even the most ardent original trilogy fan had to smile at this:

I actually guffawed out loud in the cinema. Terrible CGI too. Attack of the Clones was an absolute s**t-show of a film.

Aw, I liked it, but I can see where it did get crazy looking as the fight went on. I also liked the introduction of Dooku as a character, and while the movie overall was definitely underwhelming to me, the subsequent Clone Wars animated series (both of them actually) put some of the new mythos and characters like him to much better use IMO. Speaking of which, would have loved to have seen Asajj Ventress in the actual prequels.

I thought it was a pretty cool fight, and the way Yoda grabbed his light saber with the force like some old gunslinger was great.

I always liked Asajj too, and although she "died" in a novel a few years back I think it would be easy enough to ignore it and bring her back in live action in the Madolorian or even better the forthcoming Ahsoka Tano show on Disney+

The CGI wasn't great, but it was fun. I mean, who doesn't want to see Yoda kick butt?
I agree Dooku was much better in the cartoons, but that's true of alot of the Clone Wars era.
What's everyone think of Bad Batch? I don't love Omega (just TOO Mary Sue for me), but the stuff showing the transition from the Republic the the Empire has been really awesome. I also really enjoyed Hera's 'Origin' as well.

Yoda with a lightsabre was just anathema to me. It was ridiculous and an example of the excesses of the CG era of filmmaking--if you want to do it, why not, even if its inconsistent with an established character.
