I made an index! It's not quite done yet, but eventually it will list all the comics reviewed in this thread, with handy dandy links to each review post. I was inspired by Confessor, and with quite a few new posters, I thought it would be nice to give them a way to easily look back and discuss! I also fixed most of the cover images that had broken since I posted them, for beauty

Detective Comics 369 'Batgirl Breaks up the Dynamic Duo' Fox/INfantino/Greene Plot: Starts as usual, with Batgirl trying to stop the bad guys, and Batman and Robin bailing her out at the last second when she gets in trouble. This time, though, Batman ends up in the drink, and Batgirl suspects he has swamp fever. Concerned he'll keel over once the fever kicks in, she plots with Robin to shield Batman until it does... she teams up with Robin and beat Batman to the punch in their crimefighting! They have the literal tug of war on the cover (which is hilarious) when finally Batman assumes Robin has a crush and relents, whining and needling him to come back the whole time. After a few days, Batman has had enough, and changes his patrol, only to collapse while fighting the bad guys. Luckily, Batgirl and Robin make the last minute save, and promise to keep Gotham save while Batman recovers. Meanwhile, Catwoman sees all the Batgirl press... someone's a bit jealous. To be continued, Notes: -Batgirl makes a Green Bay Packers reference while tackling a guy.. not sure she's big enough to play linebacker, though - LOVED Batgirl getting to do the saving... twice. I was starting to get annoyed by that. - Batgirl's new gimmick is pure silver age silliness.. she's got a light on her motorcycle that changes color when evil is afoot. Or, you know, it can track the Batmobile if she'd rather. I'm sure it makes a mean pizza too. - -I haven't mentioned the art much... perhaps because it feels very workman-like to me. The figures are all very good, but the backgrounds/finishes are lacking in quite a few places. I do like the shadow effect.. Batman casts a bat-shaped shadow for no particular reason, but it's cool visual.. reminds me of the Angel (from Golden Age Marvel) Great issue overall, we even got a little remind that Barbara is smart at the end, where she give Bruce Wayne some special oranges to help with the swamp fever. Plot: A History: B (first Robin/Batgirl official team-up)

Plot: A History: B (first Robin/Batgirl official team-up) I have a copy of this. So much fun! The follow-up Catwoman story is also fun and silly and hilarious. Have you ever read the issue of The Brave and the Bold where Batman concocts a plan to trap Copperhead wherein he convinces Batgirl and Wonder Woman to pretend to be in love with him and things go badly when those lovesick females really fall in love with him? It's HILARIOUS! Ladies and gentlemen, late 1960s Silver Age DC.

Excellent!
I have to say, I'm greatly enjoying the older Bat stories.. .much moreso that the more current ones. I like a more human Batman, I think, even if it does shock me still every time something goes a bit wrong (like his stumbling in the swamp in that last issue.

Batman #197 'Catwoman Sets her Claws for Batman' Fox/Springer/Greene Plot: Catwoman decides she's jealous of Batgirl, so she reforms! Out to prove she's worthy to be Batman's bride, she saves Batman and Robin and proposes marriage. When Batman refuses, she captures the good guys.. offering Batman a choice.. marriage or death! Batgirl, who figures out the 'reform' is a scam, escapes the death trap and the good guys win. Huzzah! Notes: -- Holy puns! Not just the obvious Cat puns, but they were all over the place. Between that and the super silly plot, I was definitely hearing Adam West and Burt Ward in my head. -- Batgirl, not Batman, is the one that figures out Catwoman is faking it, in a plot, again, right out of the TV show. All the 'targets' had something with a 'cat' in their products (even if it was super obscure). Barbara is definitely quickly being established as Batman's equal, which is surprising, but very cool. -- This is the first I've seen of silver age Catwoman... the 'kitty car'? I 'cat-o-nine tails' whip for a weapon. Talk about turning the ham up to 11. -- Robin, on beating Catwoman and Batgirl to a crime scene. 'Nabbing Crooks is MAN's work' Shortly, after, Batman, after a nice move, says 'good job, boy'... much like one would say to a puppy. Damn! -- The fact that Batman and Robin are insecure when the ladies bust up crooks is amazingly hilarious. -- Maybe it's just the black and white, but Catwoman looked like Josie (of the Pussycats) in several panels Plot: Too silly not to be an A History: A (seems to be the first Silver Age Catwoman story in a Batman comic)

Batman #197 'Catwoman Sets her Claws for Batman' Fox/Springer/Greene Definitely a camp classic. Love that cover. It's a little weird that they went to the trouble to copy Julie Newmar's awesome costume from the tv show, and then colored it green. Kind of ruins it.

Yeah, especially since they only thing keep this from BEING the TV show was Officer O'Hara making an appearance. Maybe it was a mistake? Or maybe they thought it would look too much like Batgirl?

FYI, the Kitty-Car and cat-o'-nine-tails originated in Catwoman's Golden and Atomic Age appearances, and thus can't be blamed on the influence of the TV show. Cei-U! I summon the precedent!

Maybe it was a mistake? Or maybe they thought it would look too much like Batgirl? I'm sure that was the thinking, to make her a distinctive color from Batman or Batgirl.

You know, that does make a certain amount of sense... a whip would have been a little much for the show. Did the cat puns originate there as well? (Gotta get those Batman Chronicles trades one of these days...)

I was definitely picturing it purple when I read it in the B&W showcase volume, or maybe Black with Purple trim. Was Poison Ivy around yet? (I'm guessing not)... because that all green would totally work for her.
