Superman and Batman are both underused in the early Justice Leagues (and the JSA before that) due to an editorial mandate. The publishers were concerned about overexposing their two big moneymakers, believe it or not. Fan demand convinced them otherwise and the policy was soon rescinded. Cei-U! I summon the world's finest teammates! I thought some of this was due to possessiveness on the part of Mort Weissinger and Jack Sciff of "their" characters. "You go in and tell those sonva******* that Superman and Batman belong to DC Comics and not to Mort Weisinger and Jack Schiff!" DC Publisher Jack Liebowitz ---JLA Companion page 13

And it CAN be really fun. It can be exactly what I LOVE about comics and look for in comics. But then it could be Stan Lee's X-Men. And then I'd rather read a grocery list.

Let's watch the language. Remember there's a policy on swears.
There's no policy on bad-mouthing early X-Men, so I can't do anything about that, consarnit.

And watching Scott stand in a dark room and shout blame for everything on HIS EYES! HIS CURSED EYES!

Sorry I used a swear word. Even though I sometimes really like to use swear words, I will try not to do it again.
I do not care for no-swear policies, but I will respect it.

Sorry I used a swear word. Even though I sometimes really like to use swear words, I will try not to do it again. I do not care for no-swear policies, but I will respect it. It's a tough balance to walk. We all swear occasionally in our personal lives, but we each have differing degrees of tolerance for it as well. On a personal level, it doesn't bother me in the slightest when someone uses the "s**t" word, but we also have users here who casually use some far more graphic language in their everyday lives that I DO personally find offensive, as well as folks here who are offended by the casual usage of words like "s**t", so, for the benefit of all, as well as the fact that we have members browsing from work and several members (including myself) who encourage our children to check out the site, it's just a better situation if we all refrain from cursing of any kind. That being said, you get the point across just as well with an asterisk or two. Thanks for your understanding, CW.

Because we all love reading about how Professor X had the hots for the 15 year old Jean Grey. I wasn't thinking about that scene in particular. I was thinking more of scenes like that bit in X-Men #7 where Bobby and Hank go to the beatnik coffee house and the beats start worshipping Hank's feet, calling themselves "the Barefoot Beats."
That's not boring! That whole issue is great, with the Brotherhood recruiting the Blob in all his purple underpantsed glory.

You are such a Stan Lee fan. You'll defend him to the end. It makes me chuckle. <3

And also the Scarlet Witch. Figuring out how her powers work is a minor obsession of mine. She just points and, sometimes without meaning to, she alters probabilities and makes vases fall over and weapons explode.
And then there's Unus. I find that whole issue HI-LARIOUS!

Hoosier...why do you do this to me??? You did this with Stan's FF. And then I went and read it. And I ended up loving it. Now, I am going to have to have another go at his original X-Men with his sense of humor in mind. Well, maybe.

Now, I am going to have to have another go at his original X-Men with his sense of humor in mind. Well, maybe. Sorry, CW. As a whole, the early X-Men series isn't nearly as good as early Spider-Man or early FF. But still, it laid the groundwork for future success with great characters like the X-Men themselves, Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, the Blob, Unus. And Ka-Zar! Don't forget Ka-Zar! Juggernaut! The Sentinels!
And the stories, yeah, you can laugh yourself silly at stuff like that scene where Bobby somehow makes ice cream without sugar or milk or any of the other ingredients except ice.
But there are some impressive bits in there. It's a bit all-over-the-place some of the time, and some of the resolutions are sudden and ridiculous.
But that part where the beatniks are painting a face on Hank's foot. That's right up there with the Hulk dressed as a clown and juggling a horse, a seal and an elephant for best panel ever!

Now, I am going to have to have another go at his original X-Men with his sense of humor in mind. Well, maybe. Your dilemma reminds how much I hated the Legion of Super-Heroes when I was a kid (1970s) and reading mostly Marvel. I thought the Legion was just TOO STUPID to exist.
But I got a little older and I had a friend who was a huge Legion fan and I liked his issues enough that I started buying it for myself for the very end of the Broderick run and the start of the Giffen years. And a few reprints turned me into a HUGE fan of Silver Age Legion.
I once made a list of my Top 25 comics and I had an entry for the first Computo story in Adventure Comics #340 and #341. The Weirdo Legionnaire! The death (sort of) of Triplicate Girl! Shanghalla, the planet of the giant super-hero cemetery! Bizarro-Computo!
