As I've mentioned before, I'm sure, for at least a couple of years back in Little Rock I sat right in the middle of four people whose birthday was 9/15 -- a copy editor (2 days older than me), our city hall reporter (around a decade younger) & the state & assistant state editors (both born the same day in, I believe, '51).

Hey, Dan, Happy Birthday! Big day! For the anarchist in you: on September 17, 1921, they were still cleaning up after the giant Wall Street bombing the day before! For the baseball fan in you, please remember that you share your natal day with fellow immortals Earl Webb, he of the 67 doubles in one season (1897), Hall of Famer and marihuana importer Orlando Cepeda (1937), and owner of the best nickname of those born on this day (unless you're also known as "Bum"), the immortal Albert "Butts" Wagner (1871). Butts is also the Tommie Aaron of baseball's early years, as he was the less talented brother of Honus. "Butts"
For the discriminating reader in you: 48 years ago today, THIS little gem was still on sale... how did we last waiting until #3 came out two months later? Best always, my friend!

Infinite thanks, guys! Nice birthday so far. I'm basically just getting up after sleeping in, though earlier I watched the final half of a pretty solid new sf movie called Equals & of course carried out my cat-feeding duties. I'm planning to go watch Blair Witch -- sequel to the masterful (IMHO) original by one of its directors; I hadn't even realized it was out till I took a look at listings earlier this week -- across town in about 3 hours. Other than The Witch earlier this year, that'll mark my first visit to the cinema in nearly 5 1/2 years. (The theater that long-ago viewing occurred in, about 4 miles closer to me than where I'm going this afternoon, closed down some years back. It's scheduled to reopen later this month under new ownership, though, & has advertised $3 movies -- first-run, at that [we don't have a 2nd-run place here, unfortunately] on Tuesdays, so I'm looking forward to that.)
Had a nice Indian dinner last night with a good friend & discovered a dish I'd never tried before. Usually I skip the paneer dishes when ordering a la carte (as opposed to on a buffet), but for some reason I became interested in that portion of the vegetarian menu. Wound up getting panner bhurji with, at our server's recommendtion, a tikka masala sauce, & damn if it's not now one of my favorite dishes, period. Reminds me an awful lot of a tofu spaghetti sauce I used to make.
Also nice is the fact that today is providing a break from recent hot temperatures. I think we're supposed to stay in the mid-80s, which is excellent.
Now I think I'll get dressed & head out to Starbucks for a free birthday frappucino just so I'll be sufficiently alert for the movie. If that doesn't do the trick, Panera, with free refills on iced coffee, is only about a block away from there.

And of course being the bouyant, upbeat soul that I am, I should note that the fact that I'm typing this means I've now living a day longer than my mother managed (& for that matter some 22 1/2 years longer than my dad), since she died a day short of her 57th. Woohoo.

Thank you, sir.
I've actually been sulking off & on for some years now over my missing by a day being born on the 39th anniversary of the Wall Street bombing. Instead, I was born on Constitution Day, which is no fun at all (though since James Madison is some distant, distant kin, I suppose it's sort of appropriate anyway).
Discovering that I shared a birthday with Orlando Cepeda inspired me to adopt him as one of my faovrite players as a kid. Ditto for Bobby Wine, whose career was, uh, not quite as illustrious.
And Albert Wagner is a new one on me. Neat.
