Hey Herc, hey Herc!
Decades before my time, fortunately it was rerun here in the early 80s on Saturday morning. These and the 5 minute Wizard of Oz cartoons started the sugared cereal fueled hours of animated Saturday TV of my youth.

The show was a lot of fun, and though it did play "fast and loose" with the myths, it didn't stray out of the mythic field by bringing in aliens, super-villains, and the like.
There were only recurring villains-- the arch-schemer Daedalus, the sorceress Wilhelmine, and Murdis the Mask, who was invulnerable as long as he wore "the Mask of Vulcan." (The series cheerfully mixed Greek and Roman names, but give 'em credit: Vulcan sounds cooler than Hephaestus to many if not all modern ears.)
As the show debuted in 1963, I wonder if this was the first television cartoon to give its female characters-- mainly Helena and Wilhelmine-- something like real feminine forms, as opposed to the "toothpicks with bumps" employed by most Hanna-Barbera cartoons.

First Episode of The Mighty Hercules
Hercules Comes to Earth
From Wikipedia
In the original episode, Hercules beats his friend Theseus in a footrace and a wrestling match, and for his victory is granted any request by Zeus as a reward. Hercules wishes to go to Earth to fight evil and injustice, but Zeus reminds him that going to Earth would cause him to lose his godly powers and become a mortal.
Zeus then creates a magic ring that allows Hercules to access his godly strength while on Earth.
The rest of the cartoon involves Hercules meeting Helena and fighting a giant named Cacus and the giant's pet dragon. None of the other familiar characters make an appearance in this episode, and it features different character designs for Hercules (who in this one short has a yellow belt and wristbands, with a black H in block lettering on the belt; the ring is of similar design, large and yellow, with a black H in a giant sunburst) and Helena (who has a different hairstyle, a silver necklace, and more makeup than her later versions).

How Hercules gets his PowersGood Portion of the 1st Episode of the Mighty Hercules Like another DC character (Green Lantern), Hercules derives his strength from a ring given to him by his father Zeus. Because of the five minute running time, there wasn't room for a lot of character development, another similarity to the Sixties' Superman. Source of the Above InformationI had one of those rings when I was a kid and I still have it. That's how he's gets his superhuman powers and retained his immortality on Earth. I will post various shows when I can with a brief description of the show for your own enjoyment. This is one of my favorite cartoons in the sixties and I fondly remember most of the 128 shows that ran for several years. There are many You Tubes out there and I try my best to accommodate as many that I can possibly can!

Looking at the credits in the last video clip in post #1, I see that the story was credited to George Kashdan and Jack Miller, who both worked for DC at that time. The producer/director, Joe Oriolo, co-created Casper the Friendly Ghost and worked for many years on Felix the Cat.

The voice of Daedalus, one of Herc's nemeses, was Jack Mercer's. He was best known for being the voice of Popeye, but also was the Professor on Felix the Cat and Mr. Bumble in "Hoppity (or Mr. Bug) Goes to Town."
Watched this on Channel 11 in NYC, hosted by the unforgettable Zacherle.

Daedalus in Medusa's Scepter Similar to Lux Luthor. Part of a Playlist - A Gentle Warning This is one of Hercules most toughest (It's even has a scene of where he consult Zeus) adventure and filled with drama, tension, and hope. This is one of the better ones that came out. This episode came out in Season 1 - Show #14. One of the most evilest episode of which Daedalus was involved in. One of my sentimental favorites.

Hercules Invisible
First Season Show #13
Part of a Playlist - A Gentle Warning.
One of the most unusual show and forces Daedalus to do something that he regrets doing. It's was a fun show and sad to say one of the unappreciated shows in the 1st Season of Hercules that ran for 3 years in the sixties. I don't want to share much - but sit back and enjoy the show. I will try to do 2 shows every other day.

I remember this show. Didn't he pull his belt tight to gain power ? You're thinking of Sinbad Jr. However, Hercules kept his magic ring in a compartment in his belt.

Wow, what are the odds? I thought about that show (probably for the first time in many years) just yesterday.
I only saw a few episodes when I was very young, because it didn't air where I lived; my only chance to see it (and on a black and white TV, too) was when we visited my grandmother, a good six hour drive away. But I loved the show, and I loved the theme song.
Thanks for the memory!

I'm going to do something different from now on - I need a day or two to think about it.

In a way it's too bad they changed the animation after this first episode. I think Hercules looked better this way. BTW Speaking of Hercules' friend Theseus, we learn more about Theseus in the episode "The Wings of Mercury".

No problem. Here is one I sort of remember that I liked. Willameana makes a small statue of Helena, that turns Helena into an evil sorceress. Kind of like voodoo, as Willameena commands Helena to attack Hercules through the statue.

Two of the most Exciting Hercules Shows Ever! The Mighty Hercules: The Mask Of VulcanThe Defiant Mask of Vulcan, the 23rd Show of the 1st Season of the Mighty Hercules The Mighty Hercules: The Return Of The MaskThe Return of the Mask, the 38th Show of the 1st Season of the Mighty Hercules The Mask was one of the most impressive villain on this show and I think you will agree with me that these two short shows illustrates that. And, for the fans of The Adventures of Superman - they got this inspiration to do the Man behind the Lead Mask.
