I've never seen Jaws. Perhaps this would be a good opportunity. I've heard good things. It's a pretty great film, and made all the better because Spielberg realized the effects were kind of shlocky decided to work around them rather than just saying, "Aw, who cares!" Also considering: It came from beneath the sea20,000 Leagues Under the SeaVoyage to the bottom of the seaAll great choices, and Godzilla totally counts I choose this theme specifically because I used to spend my summers watching creature feature flicks with my grandfather down the cape. There were a myriad pf monsters but 9 times out of 10 they seemed to come from the ocean so I decided to specifically invoke them in honoring my grandfather this month. |

Gorgo - The British Godzilla Trailer of that Movie There is a full-length movie on You Tube and I consider it one of the unique Monster movies that came out of Great Britian and it's beauty of find and the creature is totally different from Godzilla and has terror of it's own. It's masterfully made and directed by Eugene Lourie who is somewhat underrated as a Director. Starred Bill Travers and William Sylvester - most of these people in this movie were unheard of back in 1961 when they shipped this movie to the USA for evaluation and somewhat the movie has some mixed reviews. It's bothers me and I just can't put a finger on it. I just don't know why its scored so low in Internet Movie Database; but I do watch it once a year on You Tube for fun. It's brilliantly made, very realistic, and I enjoyed this movie when I watch it for the first time in 1975 just before Godzilla verses Mechagodzilla came on screen. Gorgo is highly recommended and I think most of you would enjoyed it.

I liked CBS a little better, but my grandfather had a lot that he taped from Showtime, HBO and TCM and even had a few prints that he'd put on a few a reel to reel. |

Oh, I guess I'm dating myself. Channels 56 and 38 were independent Boston UHF stations, and along with Channel 27 from Worcester (which for some reason was available on the Cape "back in the day," they often ran the old Universal monster movies and the usual slew of 50s Creature Features and sf movies. |

Every 2 years - I watched all five MechaGodzilla films they are:1974 - Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 1975 - Terror of Mechagodzilla 1993 - Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II 2002 - Godzilla against Mechagodzilla 2003 - Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S Right Now - I have a profound appreciation of Godzilla against Mechagodzilla so much - it was excellent film all around and it's has great action sequences, good special effects, better courage than the one back in 1993. Acting was better than the 1993 version and having said that I've placed it in 5th place. Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S. is Monster Mash-Up type movie and Kiryu was far more different than the 2002 version and I have mixed feelings about it. It's now in 4th place in my rankings. Seeing the 1st two movies - the 1974 version had King Ceasar pictured below is more a match for Godzilla and Titanosaurus pictured 2nd was too heavily used and sometimes Mechagodzilla took the backseat to that monster that was controlled by aliens from Planet X. Right Now, that movie is not a good as the 1974 version and I've may shock you that the 2002 version is better than the 1975 version, by a hairbreath. Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S. had too many monsters, the acting was not a good as the 2002 version and I just felt it was made hastily by TOHO Studios. Undersea terrors of a different type:
Crash Dive (1943) A WW2 submarine movie loaded with cliches before they were cliches. Solid action scenes (oscar-winner for special effects), a predictable love story, a mildly progressive take on race relations, and some typical propaganda speeches, but all-in-all worthwhile.
Destination Tokyo (1943) Cliches here, too, but a bit more sophisticated. This one's about a sub that has to sneak into and out of Tokyo Bay to gain vital info. Harrowing and suspenseful, if predictable.
Have to admit that I have never seen Das Boot, but I'm sure it would be the ne plus ultra for this kind of terror under the seas...

It came from Beneath the Sea is a favorite of mine, even with its limited budget and "Sixtopus" it's a fun flick

 I watched Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Now, admittedly the main terror in the film is from the sky. A ring of fire surrounds earth and threatens to destroy it. But a submarine's desperate quest to save the world brings its crew into battle with sharks, octopus, and a giant squid. So I think it qualifies. This was a great film. High stakes, high tension. Against orders, in the face of mutiny, against the wishes of his captain, an admiral leads a submarine on a desperate and perhaps reckless quest in a race against time to complete a mission that could save the world, or destroy it. |

Creature from the Haunted Sea (1961) I had no idea there were satires of this genre until I stumbled upon this Roger Corman classic tonight. It starts as a standard B film but quickly makes it apparent that Corman and the cast are absolutely laughing along with you in one of the most ridiculous films I've ever watched. If you need a good laugh this month, you know where to go now.

And I screwed up. I added three underwater sea monster films to my Netflix queue, but forgot to move them to the top.
So now two western movies are on their way.
I'm not very good at this.
