Eight was it for me, I wanted to round out my list with a Jackie Chan film, a Bruce Lee film and Kung Fu Panda but time just got away from me. If it ends up with you and I in a a tie Shax I bow out to you as Kung Fu was one I had planned on doing and haven't come up with a replacement. Funny. I was just about to bow out to you. Let's see if anyone else is going to surprise us with a win. If not, I've got a few topics I've been sitting on. I can offer you my short list, and you can make the final call.

Ha, sounds like a good way to end a tie to me.

Westerns could get me to participate. It's probably my favorite genre. On the other hand, my time is so limited that I seldom watch more than one or two movies a month.

There are tons of classic Westerns available on Encore and Movieplex On Demand.

Added Rio Bravo and The Wild Bunch (EDIT to add) and My Darling Clementine to my Netflix DVD queue. There seem to be some good westerns I haven't seen on Netflix instant as well, including True Grit, High Noon and Shane.
I've also been meaning to watch No Country for Old Men, though it's too new for this competition.
EDIT again: Also adding Stagecoach and Paint your wagon to the queue.

I'm a huge Boggie fan so I'll be watching Treasure of the Sierra Madre for sure and any excuse to watch the Dollars Trilogy is welcome bu I think my big target is finally getting to see Jeremiah Johnson. I'm a huge Redford fan and the fact that I haven't seen this one yet is a glaring error.

When we think of Westerns today, I realize most of us are thinking of the later, grittier Westerns, and I do plan to get to those, but I must confess to having a certain soft spot for the earlier, campier Westerns that graced the screen between the 1930s and 1950s. They're rarely (if ever) memorable films, but they offer something for everyone, from musical acts and love stories to good guys fighting bad guys, comedy, detective work, and athletic competitions...essentially a variety show all in one film. But, on top of all that, they also tend to offer the unconditional assumption that a great hero must be a good person, and that acts of kindness and good character are always rewarded by the close. So I checked out In Old Santa Fe (1934) for the first time today, a Ken Maynard western featuring the first cameo appearance of Gene Autry in a really enjoyable musical number. It had all of the qualities I described above, as well as a second villain who proves both more savage and more sympathetic than the generic bad guy who hires him out. Not a film I expect to return to on purpose, but I enjoyed it. And no, I don't know what's up with the arrows on his boobs.

Rewatched an old favorite of mine, Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time in the West (1969). An almost perfect film in all respects but the dialogue dubbing, Leone says far more with images and especially the score than with any words these characters utter in the film's 2 hour 45 minute run time. I especially love that every core character has his/her own theme, and when that theme plays even when they're not there, you instantly learn a lot about what the other characters are thinking/feeling. An extremely deep and brilliant film that is as effortless and enjoyable as a summer blockbuster. And if Henry Fonda playing the villain weren't enough, Jason Robards pretty much rocks my world as Cheyenne, the cold-blooded outlaw with a heart of gold.

Saw it for the first time a couple months back. (My timing is always off for these themes!) Hell of a film.
