Bought on the 7th, shipped on the 10th, received on the 16th via PostNL + MRW. 2nd House of M order: Finishing Nighthawk, and Gerads run on The Punisher. Also replaced a bad copy of Nightwing. More copies to replace. The ones I had were NM, but with a lot of glue residue left from bad quality price stamps. I seem to recall I bought them at Gosh Comics, well before they moved.

I don't purchase new comics these days, I mainly read them online, but yesterday I went to signing at the world famous Golden Apple Comics here in town for a fun Saturday event. Actor David Dastmalchian came out to sign his comic book he wrote and created for Dark Horse. If you don't know David Dastmalchian, he's Polka Dot Man in The Suicide Squad. He's also the crazy Joker disciple in The Dark Knight (his first big break) and with T.I in the Ant-Man films. He's a HUGE comic fan and lover of horror films and horro stuff in general. So he's one of us, big time. Anyway... Holy cow, what a super nice guy he was. Signing his new comic, Count Crowley, David was nothing short of spectacular meeting everyone. He was awesome to his fans. Took at least a good 10 minutes with everyone, thanking them for coming out, talking to them about life and comics and just things in general. Took photos with everyone and just had a great time.

The second Tuki volume from Jeff Smith (along with the series of Bone prints) fulfilling the Kickstarter for the project arrived in today's mail. Vol. 1 and 2 were supposed to ship together, but when the pandemic delayed printing on Vol. 2, Cartoon Books shipped Vol. 1 late last year and the filled the rest of the order when volume 2 arrived from the printers at no additional shipping costs, so kudos on them for looking out for their customers.

Zagreb's annual comic show (I refuse to call it a 'comic con' even though the organizers officially added that to the name a few years ago) was held this past weekend. I only had time to go this afternoon to catch one presentation/discussion, but I picked up two tpbs that definitely fall into the 'modern' category: I admit the what got me to get Marjorie Finnegan is the fact that the art is by Goran Sudžuka and colors by Miroslav Mrva. And I've been wanting to read some of the Batmaan '66 material for years now - esp. when written by Jeff Parker, so I was happy with this find (the seller also gave me a pretty deep discount on it).

Bought on the 24th, sent the same day, received on the 2nd via DHL + Correos. German eBay seller: Bought on the 28th, shipped on the 31st, received on the 7th via Royal Mail Tracked & Signed + Correos. Comicana (16th order): A couple of minis, Warren Ellis. Not his best work, but below 4€ each, with postage and taxes included, is good. More Ultimate Spider-Man, they were on sale (not the same thing as "cheap"). Now I have a hole: #156, which is more difficult/expensive because... Bagley returns? I don't know, it looks like any excuse is a good reason nowadays.

I didn't quite like the series, which is why I turned to the original. Almost anything with Quitely inside is worth it.
Same thing for Brian Hitch, even if he's only around for half the book. Anyway, it was the shop's anniversary and I got it for 20€. NM as usual.

Bought on the 7th, sent on the 8th, received on the 15th via Amazon. Amazon (UK): I had never read Brubaker's CA, and it was pleasant enough. Another example of "bad Russians", but it's American super-hero comics, what can you expect? Not everyone is Alan Moore. From todocoleccion, paid on the 13th, sent on the 14th, received on the 18th via Correos: All of them VFN or above, for 30€. More evil USSR, but with a British twist, not so naive. From todocoleccion, paid on the 14th, sent on the 15th, received on the 18th via Correos: I missed the explanation on how CA's body was sent trough time and exchanged with a fake. With the assassination weapon. Oh well, it's more Hitch, and for 20€.

So having finished the Marvel Empyre omnibus, I have to say I was pretty impressed. Even with the tie-ins that take up the majority of the omnibus (main event is just about 6 issues). Never thought I'd care about the Kree/Skrull conflict that much as I wasn't that hooked when reading the original Kree/Skrull war issues from Avengers way back when, but this newest wrinkle spearheaded by Al Ewing, Dan Slott, and in turn many other writers/artists left me pretty satisfied, and curious for more. Alas after that event Marvel goes directly into King in Black storyline. I remember that was fairly good, but I'd have to go back and read it again. Didn't read Donny Cate's Venom run from the start either, so that would probably help leave me with a better impression.

Different strokes obviously, but reading Cate's Venom run didn't help with my enjoyment of King in Black. I also didn't care for the incursion of the other event in the pages of X-Men, to the point where the Empyre: X-Men mini was the only Hickman I skipped.
