Apparently 20th Century Fox has a Flash Gordon movie in the works and are eyeing Matthew Vaughan to direct. articleBe interested to see what they could do with this and what kind of take they have this time around. The last attempt to do Flash was the SyFy series that was interesting, but didn't feel like Flash Gordon at all. -M

Watched and enjoyed the newly released on DVD movie Big Eyes by Tim Burton. The movie is based on the true circumstances of Bob Kane taking complete credit for all the artwork that bared his name.....wait, I meant Walter Keane, the supposed artist behind all those Children With Big Eyes paintings from the 1960s. I do wonder what Bob Kane thought of the Walter Keane case

I think the Ant-Man movie looks pretty good, with the potential to be one of the better action movies this year.
But why do they think it's so clever to make numerous references to the name "Ant-Man" as if it's any stupider than any other super-hero nomenclature? It reminds me of all that ridiculous material in The New 52 "Aquaman" #1 where Aquaman got mad (which was stupid writing) because everybody had a bunch of dumb ideas (also very stupid writing) about his powers as if they learned about Aquaman from watching "The Family Guy."
Hopefully the "Ant-Man" movie won't harp on this.

Genisys look amazing. I can't believe I have to wait until July!
Also, I found the Hot Pursuit trailer to be very amusing. I might see that.

Random question for folks who seem to be in the know about stuff like this: Is there a site that will tell you what new movies are going to show up on the various pay-cable movie channels like HBO?
No luck looking for any info like that earlier today. I'm curious when and if the movie "Fury" will show up.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks, m!

Just over 2 weeks until Avengers 2! Yaaaayy! I hope you feel the same after you've seen it.... I found it pretty disappointing, to be honest - a major anti-climax.

The movie Ex Machina opens in a few days and I was surprised. not hearing about the adaptation of Brian Vaughn's old Wildstorm comic. But no, it seems to be an original SF story from the writer of 28 Days Later. Looks good though I saw Ex Machina this morning and it's really, really good. If you like 28 Days Later, I think you'll like it. It's similar in that it's apparently a smaller budget sci-fi movie, but it doesn't look cheap. It's smartly written, well-acted, suspenseful, and layered.

How did you feel about the 1st Avengers movie? Did you think #2 was better or worse? I'm a little concerned with the number of new characters they're packing into #2. I loved, loved, the first Avengers film. Don't get me wrong, A2 isn't a bad film, it just doesn't get (anywhere near) to the heights of the first one. The number of extra characters wasn't a problem for me, though the amount of time some of them got was. So, plus points: they don't spend ages introducing each character; there are some decent big set-pieces - Hulk v Hulkbuster armour, for example, is arguably better than the trailers hint; the wise-cracking is still present; the group fights are well-done with bits of Avengery team-work scattered through. Minus points (in the most general terms, so no spoilers): there's a lot of character stuff for the characters without their own movies (ie Hulk, Widow, Hawkeye) most of which is pretty slow and talky; there's a set of sequence around the main characters after they interact with Wanda which I felt lasted way too long; the film is very talky in general, particularly the first hour; there's an awful lot of the film which is essentially the same plot as the first film, and an awful lot of the rest that is being used to set up future films*. If the film were serving only it's own needs rather than the needs of the MCU, it could easily have been 20-30 minutes shorter and would have been a better film. (* can't say which without spoiling, but there's seeds for at least 3, and arguably 5)

5 hours till Ultron for me.
My expectations aren't too high, I just want an entertaining movie, so that should work out.
