Cyclops is back, not as a time-displaced teenager, not as a time-displaced adult either, not revealed to have been in hiding while a clone or some other double was getting all choked by Inhuman mist, but back as himself, after a honest-to-Stan resurrection. I read how he got back from the undiscovered country on Bleeding Cool, and it essentially translates as "thingamagig technobabble comic-book logic he's back", which is absolutely fine with me. There! I said it. Barry Allen, Hal Jordan, etc, it doesn't have to make sense anymore. Just bring them back and ignore the story that killed them. Hah! I like it! But since Marvel hasn't rebooted its universe, I prefer my resurrections to at least pretend to have some form of explanation. Even when it's God (in the form of Jack Kirby) bringing Ben Grimm back to life, as in the Waid/Wieringo run of Fantastic Four! I also liked how Grant Morrison brought back Animal Man's family at the end of his run: he appeared in the comic and basically said "I'm the writer, I do what I want, and here's your family back". (I just praised Grant Morrison. Please take note, Universe, for it's not going to happen often).

Fifteen posts in this discussion have just been moved to the Politics thread, given their political nature. Apologies to people who came to this particular thread to see how the discussion was proceeding.
The main idea behind the Politics thread is to keep the subject from spreading to other discussions. It has, shall we say, a tendency to allow situations to escalate quickly!

Is that even a controversial opinion? Seems to me that that's been the prevailing opinion ever since that song was released. I agree that that's the prevailing opinion. I have, however, talked to a few people who play the fiddle who say that Johnny's part was technically much harder. I don't know the ins and outs of the instrument well at all. But while the Devil's sounds better, Johnny's is harder and more complex to play...and the Devil cheated by bringing in an entire band of demons. The devil had a deeper plan. He never intended to beat Johnny, he had no need to. There was no need to win Johnny's soul, Johnny already fell to the sin of pride (he comes across as an arrogant prick in the song) and was headed to hell anyways. His plan though was to give him the golden fiddle to sow the seeds of envy and greed among the people Johnny knows to put even more souls on the path to hell. The devil has schemes within schemes, it is never what it appears to be on the surface. He plays the long game, he just had to make the contest look good to get Johnny's pride to swell and take the golden fiddle and start showing it off to everyone... -M

Anyone seen the Police Academy films, all seven of them?
Remember Commandant Eric Lassard? Since I suspect commandant is a role rather than a rank, what rank would he have been?
Also, in the third movie, two academies compete against each other when budget cuts bite. One is run by Lassard, the other by Mauser. Same city, I presume (the police chief visits both academies). Yet the uniforms are different in each academy. I know police forces throughout the US have different uniforms, as do state forces, but since this is supposed to (I think) be set in the same city, given the police chief is overseeing them, why would one city have two academies with different uniforms?
Also, the films are set in real time. In the first film, circa 1984, the cadets graduate. In the third film, circa 1986, the cadets from the first films, now sergeants, return to help the Class of '86. Could you really get promoted to sergeant two years after graduating from an academy?
I think too much...

I think too much... I saw the first 2 films , I think. I don't imagine they tried to conform their movie plots to reality , they just wanted to have the same actors on screen in order to sell the movie.

That's true, and analysing the films is about as futile as analysing the 1953 Casino Royale Bond spoof!
But they did fit a certain reality, zany though it was. Am curious about two academies in one city having different uniforms. I always thought there was only one police uniform in each city.
It does seem like some police films, particularly comedies, don't specify the city. I wonder if this is a directive/suggestion from real-life forces that may not want their city associated with comedy cops.

If I remember correctly, I believe the star of the franchise left after the 3rd installment. Steve Guttenberg left to go back to college.

Anyone seen the Police Academy films, all seven of them? No. They gave me a choice between that and waterboarding when I was in Gitmo.

@taxidriver1980 ... While I was in Vancouver B.C. and I went to Private Screenings of all Police Academy back in 1996 to help raise monies for a good cause and I watch all of these movies in order and I did watch all of them in less than 24 hours and after that ... I stopped watching them period. I haven't seen any of them since 1996.

I've just created an Album in IMGUR that I uploaded all my animated avatars (56 of them) and use IMGUR to link them on this site and leave my current one up for a week or two and then start rotating them when I feel like it.

I'll be heading back to Atlanta to see my friends from College on the 8th of March to the 15th to make up the lost time due to other things. I'll take a flight to Chicago and then a hour later get on another flight to Atlanta and get there in time for a 6pm Dinner (Atlanta Time) and proceed from there and be back home on the 15th around Noon (Seattle Time) and see Captain Marvel in Atlanta at a theatre that has State of the Art Closed Captioning for me.
Just learned this a minute ago and excited about it.

The Harry Potter books/movies are simply The X-Men in magical drag.
Cei-U! But Rowling does it better!
