My wife was listening to an audio book the other day - the characters were talking about a musical duo called "Priscilla and the Major", who seemed to be based on Captain & Tennille.
RIP Captain Daryl.

Daryl Dragon also played in a band with his brother Dennis Dragon in the late 60's / early 70's called The Dragons
Strangely enough, while Daryl found fame in Captain & Tennille his brother Dennis formed & drummed for the SURF PUNKS. Dennis died in 2017

Veteran British comics artist Ron Smith died today, aged 94. His career in comics spanned more than fifty years, beginning in 1949, though thdese days he's probably best known for his work on Judge Dredd, notably on epic storylines such as The Day the Law Died and The Judge Child. A sad loss to the industry.

Carol Channing used to be one of those well-known people about whom I would always say, "Wait, she's still alive?" (kind of like the now also late Abe Vigoda). I thought she would break the century mark for sure. Alas...

I went to a taping of Rowan and Martin Laugh-In to see (Carol Channing) her and that was back in 1972 with my family.

R. I. P. Reggie Young. Young was just a amazingly versatile guitarist who made everyone around him sound better. Most people aren't going to know the name. But you're going to know a lot of the music.

RIP to R&B Singer James Ingram. Ingram had several crossover pop hits, including "Just Once," and dueted on "Somewhere Out There," from the American Tail animated film. He was a talented singer who doubted his talent, in the beginning, after an attempt to break into the music scene, in a funk band. He did backing vocals for many recordings, before Quincy Jones contacted him to produce an album for Ingram. Ingram blew him off until his wife made him see the light.
He passed away at 66, which is way too young, though there are reports of possible brain cancer.
Ingram made an appearance on SCTV, during the segment Dr Tongue's 3D house of Beef, as a singer in the club, who then has to shakedown Dr Tongue for payment. SCTV was always great about incorporating their musical guests into sketches, such as Al Jareau starring in a parody of the Jazz Singer, where he is a jazz singer, who wants to be a cantor and John Mellencamp appearing as the after, in a spoof of the Nutty Professor.

Legendary score composer Michel Legrand passed away five days ago. He had a remarkable collection of Oscars and Grammys, and some of his compositions are absolute classics.
Les parapluies de Cherbourg, The Thomas Crown Affair, Summer of '42, Yentl, the list goes on. (Including one James Bond film!)
Truly one of the gods of his field.

Comic actress & singer Kaye Ballard died last week. She was 93. I remember her from The Mothers-in-Law but she'd been performing for twenty years at that point. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaye_Ballard
