Take a break, evaluate what about your regime you find most difficult and have a think about whether there's anything(s) that you can do to mitigate it before you restart: if it's monotony of the diet food, is there something you can do to add variety without significantly increasing the preparation effort; if it's hunger between meals, can you rebalance your meals to more, smaller, more filling meals spread out during the day, etc etc. Hopefully you can use this to kick-start the enthusiasm to get back to it once you've had a bit of a breather.

I think it's just that the cold weather is here, and that makes me want to be lazy and self-indulgent. I want sweet, fattening foods and sleep, much like a hibernating bear. I'll be back on the horse next week. My diet isn't too hard, but it's a diet.

Terrified to get on the scale. . went to visit my very ill Mother (cancer), and all we did all weekend was eat. my Dad kept bringing out cakes and unhealthy stuff.. . I DID manage to stick to mostly water (only one soda at Fuddrucker's, but at least it was a diet). . but yeah. .that not only torpedoed my diet, but did so before a blood draw I have to have tomorrow for my Dr. appt. next week. My sodium is gonna be thru the roof oh well. . this evening we hit the store and I stocked up on salad, mushrooms, tons of fresh fruit, and chicken.. hoping to get back on track quickly. Sorry to hear about your mom. I'm praying for her. Salad is good, by the way. yeah.. gonna try to do salad for lunch for the rest of the week to counteract the bad weekend. we shall see! and thanks, I'm sure she appreciates the prayers. Her new round of chemo started yesterday (and went good).. partially why we went THIS PAST weekend.. it was during the two weeks off between chemo rounds, so she was stronger than normally.

One of the hardest things about weight loss is that life often interrupts it. Coping with serious hardships and commiserating with your family had to take priority here. Forgive yourself for that. I am so sorry to hear about your mother and wish her and your family the absolute best of luck. Hang in there and allow yourself to be less than 100% perfect on your diet, especially when things like this happen. thanks for the comments from you as well, Shax. I just wish that my Dad didn't bring out the cream cakes.. .literally 4 of them! for a weekend visit. we had bar food (Quesadillas/chicken wings/eggrolls/cheese sticks) on Friday night at the reunion (after eating kolaches with my Dad (applesauce for Mom) when we arrived. Sat breakfast my Dad made us eggs and waffles! for lunch we had Fuddruckers with my Brother who came to visit, and then back to the house to watch football for the afternoon while eating cookies, and cakes the whole time. then for dinner (after a 2 hour break at the hotel to let Mom rest, we went back at 9pm) we had meatloaf and cole slaw, and macaroni salad (Mom again had applesauce and sourcream.. but she did eat 1/2 a hamburger at lunch). and on Sunday morning before driving back, my Dad did a full "Jewish" spread. . lox, bagels, gefilte fish, rye with marmalade. . etc. yeah. . we ate way too much

We won another game today and I was told that we won our game last Thursday in my absence and it was a brutal low scoring game against one of the better team the Bay Bombers and we barely beat them by a score of 15 to 13. I scored two goals and assisted 1. I had to play most of the game because my backup pull a muscle in his legs and I was exhausted playing over 3 quarters of water polo. I hope my backup will be able to play this Thursday.
Water Polo is one heck of a workout!

Wow. I have definitely eaten BADLY today. A lot worse than I expected I would.

So I am off the bandwagon this week. I think I dug a little too deep into the will power well last week, and now I just have absolutely no resolve to get back on track. So I'm giving myself permission to take the week off and start again next week. Chances are it'll take me until the end of the month to get back to 225, but that's going to have to be okay. haha, I knew you were a little too silent over the last few days. You deserve it , my friend. You have shown amazing will power so far, so I'm not concerned for you.

Today's weigh-in: 232 lbs (+7 from last weigh-in)
33 lbs down / 52 lbs to go
Yeah, that's not good. Inevitably, a lot of it is water, salt retention, and undigested food, but probably not all of it. My goal is to 228 by the end of the week and to drop back to 225 by the end of next week.

Got back down to 186.0, but not broken through yet.
In other news, it's getting decidedly chilly on the commute - 4 or 5 degrees in the morning, which is a bit of a shock after being 80+ on holiday only a few weeks ago. I'm going to keep cycling as long as it remains safe (ie, can live with cold but snow/ice or gusty wind with rain are just dangerous on the high traffic density roads that I commute on)
(* NB - these are British temperatures. So cold temperatures are in Celsius ("Wow, it's perishing - much be about 1 or 2 degrees today", whereas high temperatures are in Fahrenheit ("I'm melting, it's over 90 degrees out there"). It works for us - we all know what we mean)

I have a long term plan which basically revolves around 3 phases - Cutting: Lose weight! This where I am at the moment, with probably about another 8-10 pounds (and a similar number of weeks) to go in this phase, which will hopefully coincide with the last of the safely commutable weather. I know people who cycle in through lightning storms, gales and freezing sleet, but sod that for a lark! I don't mind getting cold and wet, but I do mind getting dead, which is a real possibility when the weather is either blowing me all over the road or the road is providing no grip for my skinny 25C tyres - especially with the rim brakes on my bike which barely work in the wet.
- Body prep: Bottom out the weight and get muscles used to working out. From 0-10 lbs further weight loss, depending what is achievable, but main focus is getting into the gym and getting my muscles used to working with weights again. This phase is probably going to take about 2-3 months, and with a bit of luck will coincide with the really crappy weather of Jan/Feb
- Bulking: Hitting this routine to start to add some real muscle bulk, over the course of N months, where N is an unknown but probably something like 12-24 months. Expecting to gain weight here, though working on this while also resuming commuting is going to be a challenge, both in terms of time and conflicting demands on my body (mostly actually being able to eat enough to bulk up while burning calories on the bike)
Now, this all sounds great on paper, but requires me to actually get my arse into the gym pretty soon, which I have been spectacularly bad at over the last couple of years. I'm generally good once I get started, but the getting started part... If the weather doesn't feel like coinciding with my plans, I'll convert earlier and/or longer-term to either using a static bike (and/or other cardio kit like stair-stepper or nordic cross) in the gym or maybe getting a turbo trainer for my bike. The big problem then becomes time - at the moment, the bike rides take place in commuting time - finding (slower) commuting time by tube, plus gym / indoor bike time is going to be a challenge. Mind you, my current contract only has a few more months to run - after that ends, my constraints may be less time related and more affording to buy food

In all seriousness, this sounds like an excellent plan, and you've been getting off your arse for months now, so I have no doubt you'll keep doing it!

Day 154
Today's weigh-in: 230 lbs (-1 from yesterday, +5 from all-time low)
35 lbs down / 50 to go
I'm really worried this morning. Usually, my second day on diet for the week I drop 2-4 lbs. I only dropped 1, and I was completely good yesterday. Combine that with the fact that I'm exactly 230, and I'm starting to think plateau again. My body really seems to want to be this weight, and that concerns me a lot. If I'd been 229.5 this morning, I wouldn't have minded in the slightest, but 230 again spooks the hell out of me.
Wow. I weigh myself numerous times to get an accurate read, but I was so bummed this morning that I went back for a re-weigh after waking up a little more and, somehow, now I'm 228. What a difference two pounds makes. I went from being all out worried to being ahead of where I wanted to be today. Maybe if I go Spartan today, I can be back to 225 for the final weigh-in of the week tomorrow. Not sure I'm up for Spartan mode, especially after I crashed so badly in the aftermath last week, but we'll see.
