This question came up yesterday, what is your biggest disappointment of any pro sport from this past year? Team didn't leave up to expectations (or maybe they did if you hate that particular team), player injury, bad call, bad play, what?
Right now, I would have to say the Green Bay Packers. For a team that has had arguably two of the best QBs ever in a span of three decades and only has 2 championships to show for it, this year seems even worse. Is it Rodgers? Was it McCarthy or the coaches? Both? Something else?
You can point out the lack of talent around Rodgers but then again, you look at Brady in New England and what he's been able to accomplish with the continuing rotation of players there over the years. So why hasn't Rodgers been able to do as much with less as Brady has? Sure, McCarthy wasn't near the level of Belichick in terms of coaching but the discrepancy is hard to ignore or dismiss.

This question came up yesterday, what is your biggest disappointment of any pro sport from this past year? One word: golf. The sport never fails to surprise me. The mighty can fall quickly. It's a tough game. It's unpredictable. I have played it, but am so glad I would never have the skills to play it professionally. Its unpredictable nature and my aversion to disappointment would not mix.

Pats losing the Super Bowl to the Eagles.

Biggest sports disappointment of the year? That's easy - my Trail Blazers were swept in the first round of the playoffs, after finishing third in the regular season. The sixth-place New Orleans Pelicans won four games in a row, and they weren't even close games.

Former Sox bullpen arm Joe Kelly signs with the WS losers, the LA Dodgers for 3 years $25 million. Kelly was someone I was hoping would come back to shore up the bullpen, but he is a Southern Cal native, so I can see the appeal of going to LA for him. He likely will be the top set up man for the Dodgers to bridge to Jannsen.
Mariners get Encarcion from the Indians in a 3 team trade involving the Rays, the Indians get Santana from the M's, who had just acquired him in a trade last week. Dipoto made the trade form a hospital bed it seems, as he was hospitalized while in Vegas for the winter meetings.
Mets re-sign Familia, so the first close piece is off the board. Kelly signed soon after, so the domino effect on relief arms may start, but Kimbrel is likely the logjam that has to go first to open the floodgates.
Pujols days may be numbered as Angels sign 1B Justin Bour and Ohtani is slated to be the full time DH, so his AB will be much less next season, as he is likely the right-handed part of a platoon at 1B for the Halos.
Winter Meetings are now done and no word on either Machado or Harper signings yet. I wonder if we will see any big moves for those 2 or any other big name left out there before Christmas.

Kansas City Chiefs -- big letdown losing to the Chargers by a score of 29-28 and I just couldn't believe it after the Chiefs led practically the whole game.

Are there any wrestling fans here that are subscribers to either the Wrestling Observer or Pro Wrestling Torch? If so, could you please send me a private message as I am considering subscribing to either, but I have questions that neither of their website is answering.

I saw this about Bill Fralic the other day and was saddened. I grew up in the same town as him (much later, as he had graduated HS by the time I started elementary school), but he was always highly regarded. The indoor athletic center at Penn Hills HS bears his name, as he was instrumental in helping get it built, and even two weeks ago, at the end of his life, he paid the entire hotel bill for the Penn HIills HS football team when they traveled across the state to play in the PA state HS football championship game (which they won). Fralic was an incredible football player, but by all accounts, was an even more exemplary human being, and he will definitely be missed by the Penn Hills, PA community.

Are there any people here who play or watch golf? The thing about golf is that it interrupts a perfectly good walk. I mean you hit a ball, you chase it so you can hit it again, until you finally get it in the hole, then you take it out and hit it again just so you can chase it some more. It just sounds like an unflattering character sequence from a Loony Toons short. -M
